May contain spoilers to the new episode "Buckball Season". Proceed at your own risk.
Having just watched "Buckball Season", it has a very fun story and introduces a new sport that makes it unique from other episodes.
There were a lot of good moments! It showed Snails getting some character development, which is fantastic. It's funny to note that he didn't do much, yet it was still a great boosting of his character and of what we haven't seen of him yet. There was also when Fluttershy did the spinning save, and how Pinkie is somehow able to buck the ball from anywhere on her body to the goal basket.
What really grinded my gears however, was how they portrayed Applejack and Rainbow Dash. Just a few episodes ago in "The Cart Before The Ponies", we see them acting real douche like to their little sisters (and worshiper for Scoots), yet it happens again in this episode. They care more about winning or the task at hand then those around them. I mean, if you look at past episodes, they were never like this! I mean yes, there are some times Rainbow's ego and Applejack's stubbornness make sense and are necessary to move it forward, but I just feel like this episode was bordering near sloppy, messy, and nonsensical. I know the writer of this episode has never written for the show before, but the least she/ or he could've done was watch a few episodes and make sure Applejack and Rainbow Dash were perfectly in character or at least more sensibly out of character. I'll list some pros and cons if this is TL and you DR or TL:DR.
Pros:
-Fluttershy released some sick moves
-Snails got some character development
-Pinkie Pie
-Basically Ashleigh Ball yelling at Andrea Libman for 15 minutes
-Rainbow Dash and Applejack getting REKT by Flutters and Pinks
-New sport called Buckball being introduced
Cons:
-Rainbow yelling at Flutters even though she knows Fluttershy doesn't do well under pressure
-Applejack forcing the fun out of the game so Pinkie is nervous and a bumbling mess
-Rainbow Dash and Applejack acting somewhat out of character for the sake of the plot
-Ashleigh Ball yelling at Andrea Libman for 15 minutes
-Didn't see enough of Snails
-Lot's of things happening by chance which would probably never actually happen
Basically, that's it. Feel free to argue with me on some of these points, I feel like I got a few of them wrong myself.
