I don't know when it started happening, possibly around the time of Tanks for the Memories, but other Rainbow Dash fans have gotten way over zealous in defending her. Fans like that have been fairly common since the show began, sadly enough. First it was that Fluttershy was just the most fragile snowflake ever and if anyone didn't treat her in the gentlest way possible then they were a monster. Then with Spike it was that he was abused and a slave. He'd grow up into an edgy anthro dragon and conquer the racist, slaver ponies with his bloodscythe to show how kewl he actually is. Unfortunately this stuff still does kinda happen, but not quite as often.
And now it seems to be Rainbow's turn. I love Rainbow's character. She is easily my favorite character of the show, and the one that I like to write for. That said, she is a flawed character. She's an extremely flawed character. Rainbow Dash is self centered, doesn't have much of a filter, holds everything in for the sake of her image, emotional, and at times reaches Pinkie's level of impulsiveness. One of my favorite moments of Rainbow in season 1 was in Suited for Success. "Rarity, you're not the laughing stock of the town." "She kinda is." Simply because that moment is one of the best examples of Rainbow being Rainbow. Another side note, the only reason she didn't prank Fluttershy back then was because of Pinkie being there. Pinkie Pie was the level headed one when they were hanging out. There are going to be times when she screws up, takes things too far, doesn't think about her actions, regresses, and does really dumb things because something got under her skin.
But lately, it's like some Rainbow fans can't accept that she has flaws, or could be in the wrong. Ever. No, if that happens then it's off to write fixfics on how the episode should have ended, or to say everyone is a horrible bully to her, or to say the writers are destroying her and making her OOC. Chill. Don't take it as a personal offense when things don't go her way or someone is stern towards her. And don't take it as a personal offense when the episode just isn't good (lord knows I hated Tanks for the Memories).

Agreed with pretty much everything you mentioned. While Rainbow isn't my favorite of the Mane 6, I can definitely see why she's one of the more popular characters of the show, and there's no doubt that she's deeply flawed for the reasons you mentioned in the blog post. That's part of what makes her a more engaging character. She makes mistakes like anyone else, and just like other ponies in the show, she's had to learn lessons the hard way.
Hey--don't normally post on your blog, but I totally agree. I love Dash, but I love her BECAUSE of her flaws. I don't want to pretend them away. It's her braggadocio and her lack of filter that makes her so fun--the giant ego skidding over the fear that maybe, just maybe, she isn't all that--so she will TRY HARDER!
I have no clue why her "fans" do not see this. There is nothing funnier than watching Dash skid into a pile of manure she placed there herself.
