Enchanted Library Update - Technical Questions · 7:21pm Aug 26th, 2016
Hi everyone.
Here to give the monthly update on EL, as well as some questions o:
So, we last left off with Rarity finding out the second part of TwiTwi's traumas, and also being confronted by a massive dragon.
I had originally wanted to have the chapter published by now, but my accident a few weeks ago sorta made everything very complicated for me. EL, especially, was very much affected by it because there was a scene in the next chapter that involved flooding, and after what happened to me, I kinda couldn't go through with writing it.
BUT IT ALL WORKED OUT BECAUSE I CAME UP WITH AN EVEN BETTER THING, but yes, I had to essentially rework an entire chapter.
I'm super psyched, and I'm giving the next chapter a TENTATIVE release date of Saturday 3rd. If I have it sooner, I'll post it sooner.
But also, these next few months will be super intense work-wise for me, which leads me to my big question:
I suggested way back in chapter 5 if I should end the long chapter format and publish little chapters, about 3,000 words long. I know I take a long time between updates, but I've been considering shortening chapter lenghts so we'll have more steady updates. I'm not saying I'll do it, and I think I might not, but just to know, would you guys prefer smaller 3k chapters but smaller update lengths, or bigger 7-10k chapters but bigger update lengths?
Right now I'm mostly going to work on the next chapter this weekend. We are now officially leaving the Dragon Falls Arc and entering the Ponyville Village Arc. It's going to focus a bit more on characters, ON THE ROMANCE FINALLY MY GOD, and a tiny visit to a village. The Ponyville Village Arc is actually the last Arc of Act II, so once it's done, we'll be close to reaching the end of Part 1.
I also found an EL comic that Palolabg did, whom some of you might vaguely maybe remember as the friend who's drunken rambles inspired Enchanted Library.
I still need to have Rarity summon Twilight like that.
I personally think you should do whichever you feel more comfortable with, Mono.
You don't even necessarily have to stick to either, and just do a mix of both short and long chapters, depending on how it fits. A definitive answer probably is what you'd want from me, but I personally don't care either way. What matters is what's best for you.
I like the current chapter sizes. When a great story updates, I want a nice beefy chapter to read.
I prefer the longer updates, personally. Enchanted Library is relatively slow-paced, so I worry that not enough would happen in a 3000 word chapter for it to be satisfying.
Personally, I would prefer that you stick with the longer chapters. I think they really contribute to the "feel" of the story.
Vote longer. Vote romance. Vote Rarity trolling of Twilight. Vote love this story. Vote hope you feel better.
I think I like longer chapters.
Longer chapters, yes. They're good to sit down and become engrossed in. Much more immersive that way. :)
Longer chapters are much more satisfying.
I think chapters around 10k are perfect for EL, but do whichever you prefer.
Shorter chapters will affect how you write each chapter. A bunch of short chapters together will not turn out the same as one longer chapter.
Besides, the clamoring hordes don't want any specific quantity or frequency of content, they simply want moar. Be cautious that you do not try and sate a hunger that knows no end.
Definitely longer chapters
I am another vote for longer chapters because I will gladly wait months between updates if the updates continue to be wonderful.

Your chapter lengths are perfect right now
I like the longer chapters. They fit the tone of EL better than a bunch of shorter ones. Besides, you can't just cut a chapter in half and call it two chapters, you'd ruin the flow. As much as we'd all love it if you somehow managed to completely finish the entire story overnight, I think I speak for all your readers when I say we prefer quality over alacrity. If that means we have to wait longer between chapters, then wait we shall.
The longer chapter like you do now are perfect!
Wow, what are the chances that you were planning on having a flood scene in the next chapter? I'm glad you didn't force yourself to write it, and I'm very glad that you came up with something else that you like even better than the original idea!
All my yes.
Aww, I remember that comic! That's a great comic!
I was going to comment about keeping the longer chapters but I see that most, if not everyone, has already beaten me to it and given similar reasons for why they think it should stay that way. Late to the party once again but I will lend my voice to their cause.
The correct answer is whichever one you think will be easiest for you to write, so you keep giving us this story and don't burn out.
As long as I'm getting regular updates and the story doesn't die, it's the same to me whether it's twice as often but half as long or vice versa.... barring certain extreme cases that this story never reached.
Gotta admit, I like long chapters, even considering the wait times.
BUT
Shorter chapters might fit your writing schedule better. You should do what ever works best for you. o:
But... hasn't Rarity already done that? ... Multiple times? I really feel like I've read about her getting Twilight's attention by messing up her books before.
As for the length thing, I'll just parrot the "whatever you're comfortable with" sentiment. I'd rather have a finished story over a long time than half of a cancelled story in half of the time, if that makes sense. :)

Hi everyone!
Thanks for the feedback, and yes, I sorta agree with all of you that longer chapters are the way to go! So we will continue that path for now o:

Actually, she hasn't! She's only done it once.
I still want to write the one where she makes a summoning ring out of books for giggles.

I'm not quite sure that's a secret I want to know, but I appreciate the offer >.>
Rarity's mane thanks you for not getting it icky with untold muck
