I'm editing stuff! But also incredibly dried out of writing power atm. I'll get going again soon, but just bear with me for a bit. I'm publishing a chapter of XCOM today, then start on the daily writing (not publishing) again tomorrow morning. In the meantime, always remember:
Like every year, I like to remember the man/legend responsible for the theme songs of one of my favorite shows of all time on the anniversary of his death.
So if you were wondering about the timing for the latest Isekai chapters? There you go.
These last couple of weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster. Good things have happened, and also bad ones. No wonder I could relate to both Furina and Navia in the latest Isekai chapter. Sometimes pretending things are fine is really exhausting, even if they do get better.
First, to everyone waiting patiently for the next Isekai chapter, I apologize for the delay. I know there are a lot of people that want to see another visit to Hell happen soon, and it will, I promise. However, due to some circumstances, I decided for a different pair of visitors to visit the bar this week.
4160721 There was a string of fics that came out a while ago that started with one called "Would it Matter If I Was?" about the potential of Fluttershy being a changeling. IIRC, it was left open-ended but highly implied she was. A lot like the peach epidem-fic. (booooo) Looks like there's a group for them all. Sheesh.
Thorax was extremely clueless. Somehow I do not think he was in the loop of the changeling hive.
He does make for quite a good mole though -- he is really well placed now, and even (or especially) completely unknowing -- he could be a valuable asset for Chrysalis.
alright I've had enough what exactly was wrong with Spike song sure it was a little weird to place it there but there's been songs where that's been the case too but all in all it wasn't that bad of a song
It feels like a decent third season script reworked and dropped way too late. Kinda like the last one was a so-so second season script not reworked at all.
All in all the back half of the season reeks of somebody emptying out the discard drawer at the last minute. Did someone kill a season theme at a late planning stage and leave them scrambling to patch together the missing holes?
4160850 that same argument could be used for pretty much any other song that's ever been used in the series now there are a few exceptions but other than those few ones that's really it
4160850 If we are going to go with what we feel would have made the episode stronger I would go further back and make the episode focus less on having the courage to risk common approval to stand up for what one thinks is right and make it more about how just about every rule has an exception, how anyone could change, how it's wrong to make assumptions about someone without giving a chance to get to know them (don't judge a book by it's cover), how ponies can go overboard due to an irrational fear, and how the actions of a group don't necessary reflect on the position of an individual.
I would have liked it better if the episode had focused less on Spike standing up for it's friend and more on the ponies having an issue accepting the changeling. To include more dialogue and go deeper. To deal with the issues of a community rather than the issue of an individual.
That would no doubt have being stronger and more significant in my opinion.
But then again, this is a children show and it seems to me like the more you dig into this the more adult the conversation is almost guarantee to become.
Perhaps it is actually better to just have the episode address the issue in the most child friendly way possible and that way just have the episode start the conversation which we, the audience, are free to elaborate upon for as long as we like.
4161175 We can't really expect them to delve fully into a theme like this one, and we've seen that even with two-parters they have to rush a few things. In the end, the lesson they wanted to teach got through, and it comes at a time where standing up for those that are/look/act different requires strength of character. Hopefully it will teach kids to not be xenophobes.
4161185 Agreed, this topic can be complex enough to fill a great many books on pure dialogue easily.
What I'm saying is that perhaps at this point it's alright to try to make it more entertaining and more child friendly by substituting pure dialogue that relies more heavily on logos for a song that relies more heavily on pathos.
I can see why one might not enjoy or feel too well with making a substitution like that at such a critical moment; (I mean there is no doubt it would have felt more realistic without the song and I'm sure many found it harder to focus on the value of the words with the over the top music impromptu playing along) but I feel like both are valid ways to make the scene support the theme.
I believe I would have likely been able to enjoy it seeing it in one way or the other.

4160743 4160721 It started with a story written by GaPJaxie called Would It Matter if I Was? about Fluttershy asking if it would matter if she was a Changeling (she never reveals that she is.) It got parodied and responded to and mimicked all to hell.
I seem to recall potentially being the one to suggest it to him, too @_@ Though it was vastly different when I did.
4160850 But he had to sing. I mean he needed to absolutely convince a whole bunch of ponies he was right in a short period of time he was right. What other option was there besides a song? Pinkie is ironically the only one that can't get the magic of song to work for her 100% as long as no one else sings a counter to it.
Yup.
*Groan*
Provided Spike gives a musical number first.
Is that still even a thing?

100 whacks with a paper fan. On the nose. Also, I'm rubbing your nose in the litter pan.
Wanderer D I'm going to hunt you down and kill you.
Boo!
4160674 Yeah, without Spike they'll hunt your ass down and burn you at the stake.
4160674 I was okay with the episode until he started singing.
let it die
4160673 I second that groan.
... I don't get it

holy shit

4160743 Ah, ok. Thanks for the clarification. Was abit confused there.
4160703
Yeah that's pretty much spot on for my take.
4160803 It was forced and unnecessary. He could have done that while staying in-character with dialogue and it would have been a stronger episode.
It feels like a decent third season script reworked and dropped way too late. Kinda like the last one was a so-so second season script not reworked at all.

4160850 although I do agree with you that yes dialogue instead of the song would have been better

No, you see, if you're not okay with it, it means Spike is going to sing to you.
After going through that once, I'm sure a lot of ponies have suddenly become okay with changelings.
4163957 rather forgive changelings than suffer through spike singing
4163957
And if that doesn't work, he'll team up with Twilight. He sings, she dances, and everyone else runs.
