Magic Step

I'm a conservative Christian and a conservative, first and foremost. I write AU, all my main characters are detestable OCs, and I'm a Troper. Braeburn is best pony. T for violence only.

You really, really don’t want to sleep on the streets out in Canterlot; you’re just begging to get captured and sold to work in mines, or factories, or to be used as a guinea pig by mad scientists. Trust me; I’ve had neighbors and coworkers vanish before, back when I lived in a worse part of town.”

Revising Phoenix's First Adventure and Other News

I always feel really self-conscious thinking about writing one of these things because it seems pretentious to assume there's people following my progress on my stories. But at the same time I wouldn't feel right to do this without any kind of explanation, so here goes.

Character List for Another Member of the Band · 5:05am Aug 17th, 2016

UPDATE: The story this character list is for has been cancelled but may be revived at a later date. This will be left up for archive purposes because I don't believe in deleting things off the internet.

So, one of my readers (PonyJosiah13, go read his wonderful Phillip Finder series) pointed out that I have a lot of characters in Another Member of the Band, and it was getting hard to keep track of them.

It's only going to keep getting worse, so I've decided to keep a list of the characters here. New information will be added as new characters arrive, and we learn more about old ones.

If they aren’t on the list, that’s probably because they’re background characters I use to make the world feel more lived in, and aren’t actually important.

Adorabelle Beauty: Our main character, Adorabelle is simultaneously the prettiest and ditziest filly in the Gifted Unicorn Academy, basically only admitted due to her reality breaking powers. She can open any door as long as she believes it isn’t locked, and being a Goldilocks by nature, that results in her putting her nose where it isn’t wanted a lot. Her best friend and crush is Violet Edge, but she was also close to Dahlia Thorn before the latter’s disappearance. Daughter of Sterling Scales and True Beauty and niece to Bronze Coin. As our story begins, she knows next to nothing about how her mother died, but that’s about to change…

Violet Edge: Adorabelle’s longtime sort-of-kind-of-not-really boyfriend. A diligent student of law, he nonetheless still has a blank flank because he hasn’t made up his mind whether he wants to be a defense attorney or prosecuting attorney… or more broadly, to be like his dad or like his guardian. Being half earth pony means his magic is weak, meaning Adorabelle is (telekinetically speaking) stronger than him, which he resents. His dad’s death and his resulting self-hate left him cold and depressed, so Adorabelle appointed herself to cheer him up. Violet Eyes’ son and Perfect Karma’s ward.

Sterling Scales: Adorabelle’s dad and one of the only judges in Equestria who handles homicide cases. Formerly an attorney working to end slavery in Equestria, he was chosen as a judge due to his talent for having no racial prejudices. Shy, timid, and indecisive, and unwilling to restrain his daughter. True Beauty’s ever faithful widower and twin brother to Bronze Coin, he never really recovered from his wife’s murder.

True Beauty: Adorabelle’s mother and Sterling Scales’ wife. Was murdered about ten years before; Bronze Coin was convicted as her killer. Her special talent was unlocking the secrets ponies hold in their hearts. Worked on the Missing Children Incident. Almost identical to her daughter.

Bronze Coin: Adorabelle’s uncle and Sterling Scales’ twin brother. Formerly was an unsuccessful rival for True Beauty’s affections. Was sentenced to the stars for the murder of True Beauty, a charge he believes, although he remembers very little of the actual crime. Isolation has not been kind to his psyche; the fact that Adorabelle looks like his former love and the fact that she’s the only one who ever visits him during star leave has caused him to develop what he worries is an unhealthy obsession with her.

Perfect Karma: The most revered prosecutor in Equestria, Perfect Karma handles nearly every homicide case in Canterlot and has only ever lost one case (to Violet Eyes, shortly before said defense attorney’s murder.) Ponies who don’t know him paint him as a champion of justice; ponies who do know him tend to fear or hate him. Racist, classist, and familist. The Perfect legacy is a proud one, and he does it proud. Keeps his biological daughter, Perfect Aim, hidden from society as a dark secret, while he harasses his ward Violet Edge to follow the family tradition.

Perfect Aim: Perfect Karma’s biological daughter. Suffers from a mental illness that sometimes brings her to homicidal rage. Adorabelle can’t tell if Aimy loves Violet Edge, or loves torturing Violet Edge. Her talent is hitting whatever she aims at, especially with her beloved whip. Loves collecting bears and scaring ponies.

Violet Eyes: Violet Edge’s father. Formerly an earth pony slave, he was driven from his masters’ house due to his romantic involvement with a member of the unicorn family who owned him. He raised Violet Edge as a devoted single dad, and became a defense attorney to help others who felt helpless. Killed in what’s known as the DL-6 incident; Teddy Ursa was charged as the murderer.

Mystic Faerie: A bright rising star of a defense attorney and older sister figure to Adorabelle and Violet Edge. More on her later…

Chief Blackclap: The chief of police in Canterlot, an import from Manehattan. An earth pony supremacist who makes sure all his earth pony subordinates are obedient to his principles. Ostensibly easy-going and lighthearted. More on him later…

Detective Goody Shoes: A detective who obsessively dresses all in white. One of the only homicide detectives in Canterlot. Accident prone and not very bright. Stepbrothers with Gumshoe and partners with Angel Star.

Detective Angel Star: A parkour-obsessed speed freak of a detective. Her hasty ways make her accident prone too, but in her case everything bad that results from her carelessness only hurts other ponies. Partners with Goody Shoes.

Gumshoe: A rookie, bottom rung cop. Stepbrothers with Goody Shoes and oddly unenthusiastic about earth pony supremacism. More on him later…

Iron Hoof: Attorney General for, uh, Canterlot. (I don’t actually know how that works, can you tell?) Friends with Sterling Scales, but thinks he’s too nice to Adorabelle.

Safeguard: An aide to Celestia, Safeguard puts his intense paranoia to work keeping Equestria safe from anything and everything. His single-mindedness makes him irritable, and most ponies don’t sympathize with his at-all-costs methods. He has no real job at the Gifted Unicorn Academy, but he’s around there a lot, scouting for ponies to add to either his stable of soldiers or his list of potential threats. Dr. Whooves is a subordinate of his, of sorts. Is enemies with Professor Rigid.

Professor Rigid: Safeguard’s enemy, a professor with anger management issues.

Dr. Whooves: The bright and spunky student of chaos theory and unexplained phenomenon is always trying new experiments, whether it’s warping the fabric of the space-time continuum or an attempt to heal a reality-defying curse cast on an unfortunate pony. Spends a lot of his time trying to stop Safeguard from violating equine rights in the name of national security. Romana is his assistant. More on him later…

The Puppet: A strange, black, long-limbed abomination. He can go anywhere, and he’s always thinking.

Marionette: A mysterious stallion with prosthetic ears and an injured leg. He’s not a student, nor a professor, so what’s he doing at Adorabelle’s school? More on him later…

Dahlia Thorn: Adorabelle’s BFF, presumed dead at the claws of her then-boyfriend Terry. Adorabelle’s convinced she’s just hiding. More on her later…

Terry: A griffin who dated Dahlia. Was sentenced to the stars for her murder, but was set free in an accident. Now he’s on trial for yet another murder, this time of Jewel Eyes.

Jewel Eyes: Dahlia’s older sister and one of the only unicorns on the police force. Testified during Terry’s trial for murdering Dahlia; her testimony persuaded the judge that Terry didn’t kill Dahlia by accident. Recently ripped to shreds. Terry was arrested for her murder.

Iron Flight: A pegasus with the unusual talent of locking doors when he shuts them, for reasons yet unknown. Briefly had a sojourn in Tartarus when he accidentally locked some companions in Tambelon with his talent. Dr. Whooves managed to obtain his freedom; Safeguard thinks he still should be locked up. More on him later…

Teddy Ursa: The pony charged with the murder of Violet Eyes. Owns a toy store that sells enchanted teddy bears, which currently gets no business. Under house arrest in said toy store and reliant on his sister, Plushie Shell, for food and communication to the outside world. Designed the Freddy Fazbear mascot crew and remains a huge fan of the restaurant and it's owner, his brother-in-law Clockwork Heart.

Plushie Shell: Teddy Ursa's older sister and caretaker. Formerly married to Clockwork Heart, the owner of Freddy Fazbear's pizza, but currently divorced. Carries a Plushtrap toy everywhere and calls it her baby; doesn't seem to be... all there.

Clockwork Heart: The owner of Freddy's, and former husband to Plushie Shell. More on him later...
