And that thing is this phrase...
"What's the worst that could happen?"
I really don't mind it much when a character says it in a story as long as it isn't the last thing said. I think I hate it even more if someone near them gets annoyed at the character for saying it immediately after, especially if Murphy's Law is mentioned after it. But I think the worst place to put it is in your story description. It just reminds me too much of the comical narrator at the beginning of some cartoons. Even worse if the story is supposed to be serious, I could at least look past it if the story is supposed to be nonsense or just for laughs but I have a hard time getting in the mood to read a serious story if all I'm doing is waiting for some comical event to take place.
"He's a human who winds up in the expected world Equestria. Let's watch as human and equine ideals clash in hilarious ways. Will he try to find a way back home...Nah his old life sucked anyway, this one must be better right? What's the worst that could happen?" (herp derp)
