Altered Visage Chapter 17 · 10:04pm Aug 5th, 2016

In which I speak on the most recent chapter of Altered Visage after the page break.

Well....here we are. The final chapter of Altered Visage. It's a little late, but it's finally being posted. Before anybody gets to worrying and/or complaining about all the stuff that could still be dealt with, there will be more to Chance/Victor/Visage's story, it just won't be in Altered Visage.

There are currently two separate plans for sequels. The first is the proper sequel to Altered Visage (which will be titled Jaded Visage, feel free to speculate on what happens there) which will be set approximately one year after the ending of Altered Visage and be another adventure story.

The second one I have planned will be primarily slice of life stuff that occurs between Altered Visage and Jaded Visage. Most of the chapters will only be loosely connected to each other and, though some events may be referenced, overall it won't be necessary reading for Jaded Visage. I probably won't be posting either of them soon, though, as I wish to work on some other projects for a little bit.

Moving onto discussing the actual chapter...

Let's start with Chrysalis surviving. I had debated with myself for a little bit on whether to have her die or not quite some time ago, though ended up going with her living through her injuries, which goes against what at least one person had predicted. However, another comment said they couldn't see Chrysalis continuing to lead the changelings if she does survive because of the tensions with the ponies that would cause, and it turned out to be very much in line with my own thoughts. Chrysalis has stepped down as queen and will be kept prisoner as punishment, something which both Celestia and Chrysalis herself had jointly decided should be done. This leaves Chance in the position of leading the changelings thanks to being the queen's daughter and having already ascended to royal changeling status.

Next up, let's talk family. Their names are Franklin (father), Louise (Mother) and David Mills (brother). The friend is Ricky Blaise. Sadly for Chance, he and his father do not separate on the best of terms due at least in part to his father's temper. It basically sets up a conflict right at the end of the story that is not resolved. Kind of a dick move, perhaps, but I do have intentions of expanding on it in future works. The events that Chance mentioned are in some cases based on real life events in my life, and in others completely made up. The car going into a ditch was based heavily on when I was a kid and did the same thing to a van my family owned back on an acreage I used to live on. The running away to find a friend that moved is mostly fabricated, merely based on the memory that my first ever friend had moved away at some point, though I most certainly didn't run away or try to find him. The pokemon card incident was completely made up, as is having a boss with a toupee.

Other things that I will expand upon in the slice of life spinoff/sequel include: the reaction of those at the Minoan hive to Pupa's death, Discord returning, potential romance stuff between Chance and Drymanid, the anger issues Chance has against Chrysalis right now, why the changelings were given the Canterlot mines to use, Pinkie throwing a coronation party for Chance, more on changeling biology and how it differs from ponies, some humans in Equestria stuff, and more stuff I can't think of at the moment. Lots of stuff to be dealt with there over the course of who knows how long.

Anyway, I think that's enough rambling for now. Hope you guys enjoyed the story.

I enjoyed the story greatly and can't wait for more.

Yeah, that meeting with his father... Ouch.

I'm okay with what happened to Chryssie, you struck a good balance with her surviving, but stepping down and taking responsibility. I just hope he imprisonment isn't for life, but rather until the relations between the two species improve.

Anyway, gonna try to be patient waiting for the sequels.

Well, soon there will actually be more canon on changelings, wondering how you're going to tackle that.

Hmmm.....I am definitely curious about any and all official in show changeling stuff. I'm not sure if I can even allow it to affect my story, though. Maybe if they reveal some world building stuff around them I could try to include bits and pieces, but I'm gonna have to stick with what I've already written over any new things that arise which contradict my story. It's already essentially an alternate universe from what was in the show anyway, so it won't bother me too much unless they introduce something really cool I can't use.

I honestly still have ideas kicking around in my head thanks to last season's alternate timelines in the finale. In particular, I'm thinking that it would have been a great way to get Nightmare Moon back as a villain while not losing out on Princess Luna's presence. I would have been delighted if that finale had taken a turn and had NMM force Twilight to take her back to the original timeline and we had her become the new villain of the episode, with Starlight Glimmer realizing how big a mistake she's made because her actions had brought back such a huge villain and as a result making her turn to the good side be because of that instead of what we saw. She and Twilight could have worked together to defeat her (either sending her back to her own timeline in all likelihood, or having her escape to cause trouble in the future). I don't exactly dislike the episode as is, but I think the one I had in my mind would have been way cooler.

The whole father thing was certainly unpleasant, no doubt. It's going to cause some mental stress for awhile.

I wouldn't expect her imprisonment to be for life, and I don't think anybody in the story even really knows exactly how long it'll be. Until they feel that it's been long enough, I suppose, which may very well be until relations improve as you suggest. Or perhaps until something bad happens and she gets a potential chance to redeem herself...that's possible too. I haven't decided yet.

I will read it later - I want to smash Fallout Equestria ASAP, if you know what I mean...
