Story Recommendation: 'Flashes on the Horizon'

I looked over this story before it went up on EQD and thought it was pretty rad. I can't espouse its virtues nearly as much as 'Erase and Rewind', but I'd definitely say people should check it out nonetheless. It's a quaint piece that deals with the idea of interpretation and perspective in regards to personal importance, and paints a nice feeling of helpless wonder throughout the entire story.

Latest story "Reading Rainbow" has been removed at my own behest. It was written at the request of an individual who expressed dissatisfaction with what I'd written. I didn't feel like being reminded of my failure everytime I loaded up the site, so I took it down.

The thing about that story is that it was never a project I was passionate about - at least, in regards to the subject matter. I was quite enjoying writing it, but the inherent premise of the story wasn't one I felt had any value. It was cliche shipping for the sake of cliche shipping, and it's only purpose for existence was to pander to the nature of the request. That said, when something designed entirely to cater to someone's demands fails, it has essentially no value anymore. So, I didn't see a reason for keeping it up.

In addition, it's also burned me out on writing in general. Kind of like being in the middle of a marathon and then being punched in the gut, I was sprinting with my arms out before I got told my efforts were pointless, and now it's really hard to get back into that mindset. This probably has more to do with me being a depressive tard than anything that was said to me, but it's affected me regardless, so I can't remove it from consideration.

If I can stop crying I might put the story up in another format, possibly after making it less shitty, but right now it's just hard to look at it. Or to write at all.

Not that anyone will read this or care, but I thought I would give a heads up, as several people have asked me what happened to the story. So now you know.

I can't imagine what that feels like NTSTS. Just want you to know you can talk to any of us and unload if you want.
But yeah, I follow your fimf because I like your stuff.

Aww- I was really enjoying that, but I understand.
Though I must say, I think you're a great writer and have enjoyed pretty much everything I've read so far, hope you feel better soon!
Much love

Shoot, I wish I had read it when I got the chance! I hope you get back into your writing flow soon, because the quality of your writing is splendid. Don't let one failure keep you down.

HAH!
You? Failure?
:rainbowlaugh:
Yea fuckin right!

You're the best author I've read.
No fucking way you failed.
Might've taken the story a different direction than the requested wanted, but fuck them.
YOU wrote it. They want it different? They can write it.

Arrogant prick.....

Seriously! Buck that requester, I was really enjoying what you had written so far:fluttercry:. But I really hope it doesn't keep you down as a writer, as sad as I am about the story being taken down, it'd down-right terrible that a writer of your talent has to stop because of one silly filly. I truly hope you feel better and all the luck on your future endeavors.

Aww...
You probably don't know me, but I quite like your works, and I can sympathize with how you're feeling. Writer's block is not nearly as painful as writer's blues. I'd say if you really feel this way about your writing at the moment, then maybe you just deserve (and need) a break. Spend the next two weeks mingling, or take up some other hobby, so you can then come back after the respite with a clear, objective mind. Nonetheless, your verbosity is astounding, and I'd hate to see someone of your talent leave the fanfic community permanently because of a silly little critique. Just hang in there, man!

That is... surprisingly reassuring.
What :applejackconfused:

Here's a thought.

What if the rest of us here requested that it'd continue?

And I really don't see how you could put in all that effort and the requester trash it that badly. They must be a dick.
