The Wandering Bard

"I am a singer, a poet, a musician, a storyteller. I am a bard at heart. That is who I am. That is what I shall always be." (Icon by atokota on FurAffinity)

    Some OC Questions

Hey, all! This is a meme by gilgamemesh I've seen around Tumblr, and since I haven't gotten any asks about it there, I thought I'd post it here! Here's how it works: pick a number or multiple numbers from the list, post it/them in the comments, and in about a week or so (depending on how many asks I get), I'll post a follow-up blog about it! And if two people ask about the same number, that's

Writing Reflections: Part 1 · 1:09am Jun 26th, 2016

Hello, everyone!

I've been thinking a lot about my stories lately, and thought it might be interesting to share my thoughts, and maybe a few insights, on most of them. I'll do a few at a time so as not to create one horribly long blog. But before I get started, I first want to thank you all again for your kind words and understanding as to why I was away for so long. Coming back has honestly felt like coming home, and it has been so wonderful to be back here. Thank you all.

And now, on with the stories!

The Story of the Stars
I'm sure you all know how this story came about by now, so I won't go repeating myself again. :twilightsheepish: Rather, I'd like to share my thoughts on how this story "ranks" in my mind when compared to the other tales I have written. I certainly have a great fondness for this story, for many reasons. It was the first MLP-related story I told to my very special somepony. It birthed Lyric. And for those things, I will forever be grateful. It has also been highlighted as a favorite amongst readers, and I am certainly honored! However, while I feel that the tale itself is quite worthy and a strong one, it lacks some of the finesse I have gained as I pen my Lyric (and other) tales. Yet it is still lovely and still makes me smile when I read it.

Music of the Heart
This was the second story I ever told my very special somepony. If you have read the tale, then you know that it is about Lyric herself. However, when I first told the story, I had not intended for that to be at all! The subject of the story was a different character, somepony who had struggled with their craft, but by the end, an aha idea struck me. And so you see the tale I have today. It is also of note that the tale was greatly inspired by Lloyd Alexander's Taran Wanderer, the fourth novel in The Chronicles of Prydain, though I did try to still tweak the tale to make it my own.

Guardian Halo
This is most definitely one of my two top favorite stories that I have written. The version you see now is version 2.0, cleaned up for the story reading I did a while back. And while I thought the original version was fine as it was, Will-Owl-the-Wisp helped me to see what more could be done with it, and it has definitely come out the stronger for it. I also find it interesting how Halo, who was supposed to be a one-off character and only appear in this tale, has become such a part of Lyric's lore. She is currently in two tales that I have posted, one that Wisp has posted, and she will be appearing in another once I have it cleaned up and am ready to share it with the world. It is also astonishing to me how she has taken off as a character and has been developed herself as time has gone on. And it has been so humbling to see the love that you have for her, despite her being an alicorn OC. She's really come a long way, and I am happy to see where she is taken next.

Alright, that's all for now! Stay tuned for the others, everyone! Cheers!

This was good to read bard. It's nice to hear how a writer views their own stories.
