But alas, the two properties are officially slated for different demographics--plus, if you had a fanbase as whiny as ours that kept harassing the creative team on Twitter between 2013-2014 as to whether or not EQG's canon sullies their precious pure ponies, and had the original creator of the show have at least one EQG-related ragefest...

Does that cut both ways though? I remember them more-or-less confirming that FiM would never actually acknowledge EQG in any way, but I don't know that EQG can't keep up to date with FiM. Twilight references the season five finale at the end of Friendship Games, after all.
I may just be hoping that the next movie features the human cast meeting ponies beyond Purplesmart. I may just be hoping that they end up in Equestria.

::sigh:: I wish I agreed. There's certainly some good storylines to be had by bringing the humans to horse-land I guess? I mean, I think we all agree that the great Sunset/Celestia hash-out needs to happen. But... everyone seems to want more Equestria in their EQG or just turn EQG characters into ponies and I'm just sitting here alone wondering if I'm crazy.
It's mainly a balance thing. I don't need more Equestria. I get Equestria 26 times a year before peripheral material like comics and such. That's great! But now it means I want more of the other world that I currently get twice a year (in highly truncated form!) if I'm lucky. Not for Equestria to suck that up too
I'm also one of the dozen people alive who really and truly likes the human designs, usually (not always, but usually) much more than the humanizations the fandom came/comes up with.
I'd love a dual-M6 meeting, but I'd really need it to go both ways somehow. If it was just them going to Equestria, I'd be a pretty unhappy camper. Definitely send the Bolts/Sirens to horsey-land tho :D
Anyway, yeah, you're right--there certainly seems to be more leeway when it comes to acknowleding Equestrian affairs in the human world. I think they just have more freedom on the EQG side of things--no one's watching them like a hawk and obsessing over everything it does (Sunset zealots aside, I guess?) and there's also less merchandising on the line. EQG's been able to have fun in ways the main show's only now starting to embrace.

Now that you've got me thinking about it I think I'd rather see the ponies get lost in the human world and go stumbling through Crystal Prep. Presumably Twilight is either not present or gets separated almost immediately, since she has some familiarity with both the area and the new body.

I really only want to see it happen once just to enjoy the fun of the culture clash from EG1 again, but from the other direction. Do it with Twilight again to double down on the parallel, and run it as the comic relief B-plot to the Sunset/Celestia story.
But there's always going to be that thirst for them to intermingle on account of that being the foundation of EG's premise, and I think sending the EG cast to ponyland wins out mostly for the same reasons that HiE is such a popular genre, in that it lets the audience enjoy just how cool the show is all over again through a surrogate.
