A Hearths Warming Tale · 3:02am May 15th, 2016
I know I said I'd do one for the episodes brought out in the last two weeks but internet issues made difficult. So here's my thoughts on A Hearths Warming Tale.
To sum it up, Starlight Glimmer see's Hearths Warming as a childish day, and an excuse to give out presents and candy. Twilight is shocked at this revelation and decides to tell Starlight her favorite Hearths Warming Story. What follows and A Christmas carol like story-line that takes a really dark turn toward the end before the stories Ebenezer Scrooge finally comes around.
So yeah, it was a good episode, and I'm finding it difficult to point out anything wrong with it, although I'm sure everyone else can. I love how AJ was Hearths Warming Past, Pinkie is literally Hearths Warming Present, and Luna is Hearths Warming Yet-to-Come, although I was bothered that they didn't portray that variation of Luna faithfully to the Dickens character (then again the character was terrifying in the original story.) This episode felt a lot like a Megan McCarthy and M.A. Larson episode (even though Larson isn't apart of the production anymore, at least I think he isn't.)
The small break in the story so that Spike could get more coco was an obvious 'commercial break' moment, and felt wholly unnecessary, to me at least. Also, No Jacob Marley Pony, I know Jim Miller said on Twitter there was no time to add him into this Episode, universe wise, I think Twilight skipped a part.
This episode is basically just a Ponified version of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the stories been done before and typically the target of the reform comes around quickly. we don't quite see Starlight come around to it gradually, it's instantaneous and not gradual. the character she represent in Twilights story does, however. Whether or not we're supposed to be seeing Starlight come around through that character is lost on me...
Oh, so I did find something wrong with it after all. But even so, it's the typical MLP plot convenience.
It was a good episode regardless, I enjoyed it a lot. 8/10.
P.S: I love Starlights first song, especially the end where she sings super soft, I am a massive sucker for songs that end like that, it's so nom!
I loved both of starlight's songs
3945137 Starlights first song is my absolute fave. I actually edited that I liked it into the blog after your comment.
