MCU: Robert Downey Jr. confirmed for Spider-Man: Homecoming; Michael Keaton dropping out? · 8:26pm Apr 21st, 2016
Confirming a long held rumor, Robert Downey Jr. will indeed be appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming, partly due to how well he and Tom Holland (who is playing Peter Parker) got along on the set of Captain America: Civil War.
It is currently unknown how big Downey Jr.'s role is going to be.
Meanwhile, another rumor is floating around that Michael Keaton, who was approached to play a villain in Homecoming, was unable to reach a deal with Sony/Marvel, and might not appearing afterall. However, this is still rumor, so take it with a good heaping of salt.
I sense the Iron Spider coming.
I hold out my hopes for Goblin Keaton. If he does wind up in the movie, that'd be the best role for him. Maybe Octavius. How well can he play a manipulative ego maniac?
Random thought I've seen kicked around for a while. I don't actually see it happening, but it'd be awesome if it did:
Norman Osborn (whether or not he ends up being played by Keaton) starts playing a significant role in upcoming events in the MCU.
Thunderbolts are formed (if rumours about Marvel wanting to put Inhumans on hold indefinitely in place fo Thunderbolts.)
Infinity War happens.
While most heroes are in outer space racing for the Infinity Stones, criminals see it as a chance to go rampant.
The Thunderbolts manage to mantain some order and gain favour in the public eye.
Near the end, all the heroes manage to bring down Thanos, but not without bringing the fight to Earth.
While the heroes ponder whether or not should they dispose of Thanos, Norman Osborn sweeps in and kills him

It just doesn't fit. First off, Thanos has been shown to be VERY powerful, so for him to just be killed off by anybody, let alone a mortal man, is an incredibly difficult pill to swallow.
On top of that, killing Thanos would leave the MCU without a proper Bigger Bad, since they don't have the rights to Doctor Doom or Galactus, or any of the X-Men villains (all of whom are owned by 20th Century Fox). This means that the MCU won't be able to properly provide a consistent way to drive the universe forwards, since, so for the past three phases, we've had Thanos moving things behind the scenes however subtle.
On top of that, wasn't Dark Reign criticially and fan derided as being a dumb story? I mean, I didn't read it, but I haven't exactly seen anything about it that's unabigiously positive outside of official Marvel guidebooks, which will obviously paint ANY subplot/storyline as positive.

Wait, it did? Huh... I rather liked it. Then again, I only read the Dark Avengers series, which was superb. And a few others.
But anyway, I don't see it happening either, but when I read it I thought it was hilarious.
