The Package
As stated in the author’s notes, this was originally a guest chapter for “1000 Ways to Die: Equestrian Edition”.
Lyra’s vibrating egg is a nod to “A Summer Day on the Farm” by Fimbulvinter.
The planet Turner dragged Cloud to offscreen is the screaming sun planet from Rick and Morty.
The sonic modulator is similar in function to the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver, and was crafted by Toshiko Sato in Torchwood.
TEG Chapter 1 - Lavender Lace in "P.Y.T."
The initial idea was all three Illusions would hunt for their admirers while constantly running into couples every paragraph or so. The end result was to have been Trixie x Brawly Beats, Fuchsia x Ringo, and Lavender x Saints Bro/Nolan North.
I tried to combine the older writing style of the American Romantic period with the cheesy comedy of older romance flicks. Judging from the story score, seems like I didn’t pull that off well. Eh, I’ve got 20ish more chapters to try new stuff.
Other candidates considered for Lavender’s secret admirer in this approach were Flash, Bulk, and, for a surprise twist, Fuchsia.
Some of Lavender and Fuchsia’s characterizations, as well as Cloud Kicker being the former’s cousin, are derived from Jordan179’s incarnations from “A World of Illusions”.
A few Michael Jackson references are sprinkled throughout, the title itself being one of his songs.
Fuchsia’s plush is a Meow Wow Dream Eater from Kingdom Hearts.
The Sherlock exchange is easy to recognize on its own.
“I’m going on an adventure.” – Bilbo Baggins, The Hobbit
In case no one is familiar with him, Homestar is a CHS student who (so far) appears exclusively in the EQG app.
“I can’t believe you found the song!” - Sam, The Perks of Being a Wallflower
The segment with Cranky and the cell phone was inspired by a couple of scenes in Breaking Bad. This will have a deeper meaning later on in the series
Yeah… sea salt ice cream is going to be a common thing in the series. Thanks again, Kingdom Hearts.
Cloud makes a reference to a classic Toad line from old school Mario.
The boombox moment is a nod to the classic scene from Say Anything.
Lavender is a Shia LaBeouf fan at heart.
