Trump took trolling Up To Eleven; is it acceptable for a politician to do? · 7:28am Mar 17th, 2016
I don't know whether to or at that. In Russia, one could potentially sue Trump for insult for that.
I have to give him some credit, though. The video is short, simple, blunt as an axe and strikes hard. And, be it admitted, I found it funny. (No, seriously, Hillary Clinton looked really funny).
Although I am concerned that politicians and political entities also took to trolling. The most known example to me is Russian Embassy in UAE, with this tweet about "arming the right Syrian rebel to arm" and this one on "leaked latest NATO evidence of Russian armour invading Ukraine".
While this "twiplomacy", as Russian Embassy in UAE called it, is funny as hell, I am not certain it is acceptable for politicians and diplomats to engage in such things. I know it's 21st century, but still...
What do you think? Is it acceptable for higher-ups to make a witty/snarky tweet/post or not?
Higher ups should be allowed to be snarky, but I don't think it should be done if it risks information or security.
Also, that video was bloody hilarious. If someone made something like that of me, I really can't see myself trying to sue someone over it.
Security is an understandable concern. Problem is, I believe it's quite easy to go beyond the diplomatic etiquette. It's one thing when common folk engages in flame wars, and another thing when "Canada at NATO" first posts "help" for Russian soldiers with its "Russia" and "Not Russia" (i.e. Ukraine) which reeks of trolling, and then our side says "Helping Canadian colleagues to get a grasp of situation in Europe" and shows a map with Crimea as Russian territory. This tit-for-tat looks kinda silly for such high politics, in my opinion. Or am I just that conservative?
Shows that you have a good sense of humour And here in Russia, some people in State Duma have (as the rumour goes) proposed a legislation that would consider insulting the President a punishable criminal offence. While insult is by itself an offence, the punishment for insulting the President may be tougher. These "parliamentarians" are so eager to stand out lick ass, it's disgusting. To be honest, though, it doesn't seem that Putin particularly cares what memes and pictures people make of him.
