I realized I hadn't posted anything here since Christmas. Holy cow does time fly, am I right? But it doesn't swim, as it hates getting wet in the same way most cats do.

Let's get a second opinion up in here! · 7:03pm Feb 2nd, 2016

I guess it's no secret that I've been working away on a sequel to The Laughing Shadow and am finally close to getting it done. But I got to thinking: it might be fun to do stuff in the 'verse that isn't always about cracking heads and dealing with shit above and beyond the norm an average person faces. So what I decided to ask you, dear readers—all two of you still on the site—is that would you all be interested in a side-story filled with one-shots that are more slice of life in nature that just kind of gets updated irregularly. Simple things, like the Apple clan helping built a treehouse, poking around town, dinner dates, that kind of thing? Or do you think that would ruin the integrity of the universe, having these simple stories in-between actual character evolution and that kind of deal.

If y'all got an opinion on it, please leave a comment below. Or a PM. Or Skype. Or, hell, smoke signals work too.

Oh, slice of life stuff is my favorite, so I'm all about this.

I'm all for fleshing out the universe, and nothing says a place exists beyond the central plot like expanding it with slices of life.

Why would it ruin anything to have side stories? If peeps only want to read the main story then they can just ignore them, but unless you were planning to integrate them into the main story where they'd break up the pacing, I don't see how adding more world building could possibly detract from the overall tale, :derpytongue2:

I'm always a sucker for slice of life stories dude. :pinkiehappy:

I would like to see change and adaptation of slice of life you did for Jack, to see Jack getting into trouble and killing someone and how it interfered with her moment of intimacy was awesome. If you put in some slice of life short stories I would like to see that it has something to do with the inner working of thoughts and feelings of the characters in the main story.

Me three! Your slices of life are even slicier than most others!

I can get behind Apple Clan SoL.

SoL story in Laughing Shadow universe? Count me in!

As long as it has a sizeable amount of RariJack shenanigans, that is.

They've been through a lot. They deserve to live in a lighthearted spinoff for a while.

you should totally do it lol

Yes, Slice o' Life works

I have seen this idea work out great before but i have seen it crass as well however i would love to see it just make sure its something you as the writer want to do.

Taking a sort of breather from the main storyline of the 'verse and making a little nonlinear side filler (of sorts) is good every now and then, keeps things lively and interesting, plus I love a good expansion of character dimensions. So I say, go for it!

.........On a side note, I got this in my feed list and I'm not even following you! Is that a thing now??

I don't really care, just write what you want to write and you best believe I'll be there to read it! The Laughing Shadow was such an excellent read I'd be more than happy to revisit such a well crafted universe!

Never said there wouldn't be sparring at least. I mean, after all, we are in a world where fighting is something that happens fairly regularly. It might be something that Rarity has taken to learning after the business of the first one.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, guys. I appreciate it and I'll try not to let you down!

I'll try to hit on the introspection that's needed. Granted, I think a lot of her inner demons are at rest now, but there's always room for thinking.

3728997
I was thinking the same, showcase them and their relationship during a time that isn't a crisis.

3729737
We'll just have to see what happens, I guess.

I tagged the story for this blogpost, so if you have it Favorited, it would have shown up in your feed, amigo. I figure that this pertains to TLS enough that I needed to go ahead and do that.

3730607 Ah, I see. Thanks for that, makes more sense

I love reading SoL stuff. Helps show that not everything is world changing all the time. Also makes the painful stuff sharper, because you've seen them at happier times. It's hard to be sad or mad when there's no happiness or fun events to compare it to.

I'd also like to see some of the things that the others get up to. You've got a lot of characters that are great doing all sorts of things. It'd be really neat to see what else they get up to or what happens for them. You don't have to do a lot, just flashes, let us know just enough to assume the rest. But some have a really hard time doing SoL after more action packed things and vice versa. So if you are having a hard time with it, it may become more irregular than you thought. Which is also no problem, authors just have their own particular styles, is all.

Good luck!

Personally, I myself am quite the sucker for sol stories that skip around and show little snippets of the characters' lives. It's also a good way to stretch the writing muscles in between larger fics or large chapters of larger fics. Jus' sayin', Merc—benefits for you, benefits for me... :raritywink:
