    Goodbye Old Friend

    Hey folks,

Been a while...so I heard recently that a famous writer and friend of mine on Fimfiction, DarthLink22...passed away recently...

We've been working on Longing and other stories together for a while now...

He was one of the first friends I made on Fimfiction and one of my first collab partners.

    STEAM HACKED (FIXED)

So I woke up this morning and found my account was hacked and my good friends suffered from it (and blocked me too)...

Just wanted to give a headsup that I've fixed it and won't be hacked again...

Do not go on a link to vote for a some CS or DOTA team...

Anything goes · 12:48am Dec 26th, 2015

I know I made a blog today, but I feel like doing another one...

Lately and since I joined FIM, I've been seeing comments on stories. Now, it's not the comments of criticism for the story and it's writing style or the grammar in it... what really irks me is the fact that people complain about 'cannon'. "Word of Faust", "TV shows says this", "They are not straight/lesbian/gay", etc, etc, etc.

Now, this is something that really drives me nuts. This is the kind of critic that halts imagination and breeds only rehashes of the same story over and over again with a different camouflage (hoping the reader is none the wiser). Look at what Hollywood is doing with today's movies, many are just rehashes or just simple remakes or different 'tellings' of movies that were done in the past. Now I'm not saying all of them are bad, there are quite a few that have earned my respect and approval when I saw them, but to always do it over and over again breeds pure mundane.

This is why writers such as JRR Tolkien, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, Terry Goodkind, David Eddings, George R. R. Martin to name a few are remembered. Because they defied the norm and pushed past the limits and expanded the imaginations of others.

The same goes for directors of the past, like the great Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Wells to name a few, who defined cinema today because they were not bound by what critics wrote about or what the censorship demanded from them.

In conclusion, this is for every writer out there, who is currently on FIM or going to join FIM, write anything and everything your mind says! *Don't second guess your imagination, nor let others speak or write what 'should be written'.

* I am a writer of Twilight and Spike as a mother/son duo, and I say it proudly.

This picture to an artist group that has artists writers etc alike(in skype) that I learned about from fimfiction.net

One guy who was interested asked me more about it and started asking me things. Like his name his origins etc.

When I said that there was a civil war between the changelings and that I had a "Houses" system I was met with "But civil wars are a human thing, they require individuality and changelings have a hive mind!" Of course later he tried to mend things saying that it's just an idea and he likes Starcraft-Zerg like changelings a lot but the damage had already been done...

You see I am so SICK AND TIRED of hive mind theories and fanon. I genuinely don't have a problem with the idea but this theory has reached a point where it's regarded as canon. And it's so fucking oppressive to people, it blocks creativity, genuine thought, authenticity...

It fucking sucks BALLS! It has become a massive trigger button for me to have people regard it this way. I obviously can't do anything about it but genuinely speaking I do my best to discourage people from having it as headcanon if anything to encourage creativity.

To be honest I have no problem with lesbian Rainbow Dash but it's become sort of a trend that I don't like. The fact is I HATE TRENDS. I hate it when people make a thousand spin-offs of "Would it matter if I was" I hate it when a thousand spin-offs of "X masturbates" come out, and I hate it when I see a gazillion changeling fics with the same plot go over the same "special little snowflake" plot just changing the starring faces.

But the most of all? I hate that when someone likes a character and what they do "They are in character" but when they don't they are "ooc". E. G. Tyrant Celestia.
Edit: I think we all know how people react to new or different or controversial ideas, resulting in oversaturation amd blocking of new ones.

I also hate people who patronise story development.

Are testament that even feedback is overrated at times.

I don't want to say this but quite often the audience is quite frankly... Stupid. It's the reason tropes like "Magnum Opus dissonance" exist.

Sorry if it sounds angry but I think I have a reason for being angry.

This. So much this. If I wanted to read/see only cannon-perfect stories, I'd have stuck to official media. And seeing two consecutive blogposts from different authors who had enough of people criticizing them/their stories for perfectly sensible choices ranks among the saddest things I've seen on this site.

PS:
Morpheus: What if I told you that just because a story goes against your preferences doesn't necessarily make it any less enjoyable by you?

The issue is that you will run into people who cannot understand the concept that other people have different takes on events. They're so certain that what they 'know' is what is correct and true and anyone saying differently is wrong. I remember when I read 'The Chase' there was one poster that was infamous for constantly trying to correct the author's usage of magic, physics, biology, and thoughts and actions of characters, despite it being pretty consistant through-out the story. Near every chapter he'd say "But pony magic doesn't work like that!". Heck, it wasn't the only story that he'd do it in, but because of the length of The Chase, it was especially noticable there.

About the only thing you can do about these people is just think if they're actually talking about an instory mistake (Magic working one way in chapter one, then a different way in chapter two), and if not then just disregard.

So you have become the thing you hate?

3643582 If you mean that I say "Hey you know that's a nice fanon and all but maybe you can try something different? Or at least spice it up?" then yes. I am sorry but I don't subscribe to being a copycat.

I agree with you for the most part. But there's an AU tag for a reason. Anything that strays too far from a 'Canon' portrayal should be marked with it. If not then the story is assumed to be trying in some way to be something that could be canon.

But then again, people just shouldn't be dicks about stuff in the first place, and if they find something they disagree with they should make a well thought out comment about it if they actually want to discuss it.

Yeah, I'm cool with stories that go that route. Heck, she hatched his egg. Delving further into head canon, his egg may not have even been fertilized. It might not have even been an actual egg! Twi being an actual mother to Spike is alright by me. ...the show just decided to skirt the "Child/Teenage Pregnancy" issue. But isn't that what fanfiction is for?
