New Midnight Rising chapter off to prereaders...

At long last. This is the redo of the chapter I was forced to scrap in April and then about 80% rewrite. I saved a few select bits and pieces from the original version, but the rest went by the wayside.

Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Welcome new Firefly readers! · 3:32pm Dec 11th, 2015

Welcome new readers! After a painfully slow initial climb, Before the Storm: The Rise of Firefly hit the featured list the last two chapter releases and a slew of new likes, tracks and faves was the result. I'm gratified to see the story gaining traction now, and though it certainly had a rough start as I've had to go back in and make some major fixes to earlier chapters, I'm very happy with it now. This has been my favorite story to work on of late, and I actually wrote the last chapter in just two days.

The fixes continue even now. I wanted everyone to know I've made some substantial changes to the last chapter. The two trailing sections, which had been third person, have been converted to first person, told from the point of view of two of the characters present--characters who will figure prominently in the course of the story. This makes the storytelling consistent and greatly expands the sections, giving more insights on what was happening and the characters involved. So give the latest chapter a second look at some point. I've also done the same in chapter three, converting the trailing section to be told by Princess Celestia herself.

For those of you new to my work, know that I am primarily an adult fiction writer, as are my other two stories. But mere clopfics they are not; they are very plot-driven and chock full of character development and worldbuilding, just like this one. One is a Twilight Sparkle/Phoenix Wright shipfic called The Lawyer and The Unicorn that is a sequel to the Turnabout Storm novelization, which I edited and then wrote a very large chunk of, and the other takes place in the Gentlemanverse, where the biggest inspiration for my Firefly story, Feathered Heart, takes place.

Firefly actually has several scenes in both the TS novelization and TLaTU, her spirit channeled by Maya Fey. It was from those scenes and an-initially brief tale of her past the inspiration for this story was drawn. She even has a cameo appearance in Five Star Service, my Gentlemanverse story. I hold this story to be canon to both the Gentlemanverse and the Phoenixverse, for lack of a better term.

I'm aware that such stories aren't everyone's cup of tea. But they're there if anyone's curious, accessible through my story page. I don't write 'safe' stories, as a rule, and I'm not afraid to be a little controversial or utilize unusual story formats. But I don't do it to troll or shock; I do it to challenge my writing chops and be different; prove that such things *can* work and be written well. You be the judge whether I succeed.

Regardless, look for a new Firefly chapter by Xmas! And appropriately, it will take place over Hearth's Warming...

I'd like to add here that the mysterious mare who's performing the interrogation on Ravenoff is the ancestor of Five Stars: the main character of Five Star Service. She's very much in character as well! I imagine having scared the bejeezus out of the poor Griffin, she'll be charming the information right out of him in true Five Stars fashion. :rainbowwild:

And appropriately, it will take place over Hearth's Warming...

Sounds like a big raid is coming. Those hearths sure will be warm when the entire building is on fire.

For the love of-!
Stop editing chapters after you post them, it's annoying as hell to replace chapters I've already downloaded... I'm not so bothered by having to re-read a chapter. I'll probably reread the whole book before you post the next chapter.

With apologies, but tinkering with my stories and trying to improve them is something I do constantly. If they're major changes, I let readers know.

3612066 Yeah, it's part of the reason so little I write gets posted.
