So here's how my day went... · 11:08pm Dec 3rd, 2015
SO! Here's how my day went.
Walked down to Walmart (half hour walk) - got my groceries and a new computer (my old one was breaking down).
Couldn't get a ride back. Cab was out of state, friends were busy/unavailable. Ended up having to take the cart home. (I asked two different managers and they said it was okay so long as I bring it back.)
Being the good little boy I am, I brought it back right away. And then I went back home to set up my shiny new computer... which was incompatible with my monitor.
I angsted for a bit, did a quick search on my handhelds, found a wonderful thing called ADAPTERS. Walked back to Walmart. Bought an adapter and cable. Walked back.
THE ADAPTER WILL NOT WORK ON THIS MONITOR. The connector is different.
Five hours of walking back and forth for NOTHING. I'm typing this on my old computer.
*headdesks* Hokay, online shopping time...
EDIT: And it was the wrong adapter entirely... DVI to HDMI instead of VGA to HDMI... I have to go back and trade it in...
Nothing I can say to that except... ouch.
3590476 One more ouch. Turns out the adapter was for the wrong type of connector. I didn't even find out until after I had opened it and talked to some friends...
Damn. That's gotta suck.
When alien archeologists try to piece together our civilization, they'll have no clue how we lived because we stored everything digitally.
Advice, adapters that deal with converting analog to digital or vice-versa will only work one way. Be sure to get a VGA to HDMI (PC --> Monitor) adapter instead of an HDMI to VGA adapter.
I made that mistake once. I spent three days trying to figure that one out.
3591223 Danke. I'll remember that when I return to Walmart tomorrow.
3591223 But if it's the monitor that's VGA, which I think it is, then you need the HDMI to VGA adapter.
