Friendship Games Vs. Sparkyll and Hyde · 9:02pm Sep 28th, 2015
Let's get the paperwork out of the way first. The next chapter has been sent to my proofreaders, so expect it soon. Also, this blog is less about complaining if DHX ripped some of my story off, and more poking fun at the similarities between Friendship Games, mostly concerning Human Twilight, and S&H. It goes without saying, Major Spoilers for Friendship Games! Enter at your own risk!
As for S&H, I'll only put spoilers for the current chapter, and even then, there'll spoiler tags to block it. Okay, here we go!
Obviously, if Human Twilight's researching magic, there's bound to be some Jekyll and Hyde references in the first place. We have the lab coat, the blue sweater, (which I use as Sparkyll's clothing in my story to get in on the EQ3 hype ) and the interest in unearthing the mysteries of magic. (Dark Magic in Sparkyll's case)
Both reside/work mainly in the city/capital, and are outcasts due to that work; (at least, I'm assuming they pick on her because they think her work is unprecedented) even Fleur de Lis is briefly shown bullying both in some way.
And here's where the chapter spoilers come in.
Twilight/Sparkyll sings a self-encouraging song about bringing a new change to their lives while walking to a destination and climbing a flight of stairs to the highest point of the building.
"I know there's more that's out there, another me I haven't met." Foreshadows them discovering their darker side.
Both seeking to understand magic/dark magic despite its dangers and being unpredictable.
Despite their better judgment of handling them, both are lured into using the pendant/Alicorn Amulet to achieve their goal, which results in their darker side taking form.
Both reflect on what they'll learn from using the pendent/Alicorn Amulet's magic, and eventually embrace it willingly in believing they're doing good.
Eyes briefly flicker their darker sides' color.
Darker sides have similar color schemes. (Not telling exact details on Sparkyll's, let your imaginations run wild )
And now for nitpicking!
Both have a study/lab to work on their project to their hearts' content, even being supported by family.
Spike acts as a major supporter/assistant to Twilight/Sparkyll.
Applejack is the most supportive of the Human/Mane Six towards Twilight/Sparkyll despite their differences.
Both suffer extreme pain and cry for help as they transform.
There are a couple more major similarities, but that would require spoiling the last few chapters of the story itself, so I won't.
Of course, my story's been in production since December 2013, long before I even heard of Friendship Games, but it was still fun to make fun of the coincidences. After all, it's not like DHX did mind-reading manipulation in my sleep and took some of my plot points for their personal gain . . . right? Right?
