What I'm doing with Horizons. · 7:03pm Sep 18th, 2015
So, some folks may have noticed that I changed the title of the story. This is for organizational purposes. On the hub page, the story is largely broke up into 5 sections. I'm going to be uploading them here in that format, with each book linked to the next.
In other news, I'm starting to do some work with Overmare studios on the game. Not sure if it will be used or not, but it should be interesting. Scripting is a much different process than just writing a narrative.
I'm also trying to nail down my next story. I don't know if I should do another FoE story, another MLP story, continue Broken Accords, or do non-MLP writing, either steampunk fantasy, or mecha based science fiction. I need to focus on one thing because right now I'm distracted by five or six big ideas.
Maybe I should just write up a first chapter for each and let people vote on it?
I'd love to see Broken Accords continue, but it's up to you.
I'd like to see you get back to work on Broken Accords. It's pretty good.
I say write a MLP story of some kind or taking up one of the side storys you set up near the end of Horizons. I think a lot of us would love to find out what happened to Scotch Tape and friends.
Or you could combine the mechs and Pony idea. I would love a Battletech/MLP story that was actually worth a damn.
Torn between wanting you to continue Broken Accords and the sci-fi mecha story. Edging towards the latter because, seriously, there is a distinct lack of mecha fiction on the internet. The only one I can find is called Ilivais X, but it was rebooted and then abandoned.
First the first chapter of each of them, because that's a good idea. But because of the gap in the (western) market, I'm most likely going to vote mecha sci-fi.
I vote for Broken Accords or FoE.
Also, weren't you talking about a clop story?
In other news, the game can only get better.
Somber working with overmare people? Sounds pretty badass and could turn out really cool.
Storieswise, hmm...... A FoE thing would probably benefit from something beeing in between it and horizons. I would prefer something pony over something not pony, but thats more up to you then anyone else.
Considering you can sell non-MLP writing, I'd say you should try and look into doing that. I don't really care to say what story I'd most want from you, since you so often imbue your works with the hyper-depth of transcendent existence. And (good) sex jokes.
And congrats on working with Overmare studios! I hope you can get the scripting format to work for you. (And that it's fun.)
If you have work that you can make money on please work on that. Good news is you can have more than one writing project at a time so you dont burn out on one k
I highly disagree with breaking Project Horizons up into separate stories, and I'm honestly not entirely sure why you have. The whole thing is one continuous story—the first few volumes were even separated in retrospect; at first there were no volumes at all. I imagine that you'll keep the original chapter numbers because it wouldn't make sense otherwise—how else would we all refer to Chapter 33? And by keeping the chapter numbers the same, it makes the artificial natural of the split even more obvious.
Plus the title is way too long now. And I can't wait for "Fallout: Equestria - Project Horizons, Horizons".
Think of Horizons like a TV show. Each chapter is an "episode", and each volume is a "season". But it's all under the name "Project Horizons". On Netflix all the seasons and episodes are contained in one listing. If you track a show with your DVR, all episodes from all seasons will be equally tracked. That's the way it should be. Otherwise the comment section will be all fragmented, people will have to remember to find and re-track the story, groups trying to include the story have to hunt down and add each individual one, etc... and for no obvious benefit.
So yes. I highly recommend going back to your original upload plan—I don't understand why it should be changed.
(...And if you're really dead-set on this, could you at least change "Fallout: Equestria - Project Horizons, the Security Mare." to "Fallout: Equestria - Project Horizons: The Security Mare"? The period at the end of "Mare" definitely has to go, and that comma looks really awkward.)
I'd also like to know why you're choosing to do it this way, actually.
It looks like dude here is trying to rewrite The Story.
I bet it will take as much time as original work.
And here i am, with hope to read the complete story...

Really? Do you think it'd be better to just cram it all on the same page?
3402594
I think that that would be significantly better, yes. If you really wanted the volumes to have a presence, maybe you could do something like Starlight Over Detrot and have the volume names as part of the chapter titles? I'm not sure just what format would be best for that, though.
I do think that, at the least, the current title could do with rewriting, as I read it as saying that Project Horizons is the Security Mare.
I would still like to hear your reason for breaking the story up, though; without knowing what it is, my view of the situation is much reduced, as is my ability to provide advice.
3402594 It depends on what your purpose for splitting it up was, but yes. Unless you're reaching an Austraeoh-level number of chapters, there's no reason I can think of to split a story into multiple overview pages.
maybe you should start on writing a si-fi fic about poines who era fighting evil penis-tenticle-eye monters

I also don't see the benefit of splitting Project Horizons into different stories on here and would rather see the story all on the one page. In fact I think I'd be overwhelmed to see the five stories on FimFiction when they should all be contained into one story.
I'll echo what others have said: It seems unnecessary to split Project Horizons into five separate stories. It'll be confusing to people looking to read it for the first time. You'll basically have to add a note to the beginning of the description that this i volume so-and-so. It'll also make the true length of the story less clear and force people to juggle five different entries in their bookshelves. Which volume do I display in the favourite section on my user page? The first one? My favourite one? All of them?
Plus, why give up the opportunity to have Project Horizons displayed as one of the longest fics on Fimfiction?
But why are you splitting Horizons? It has to be on top of the longest (and the bestest) stories! =)
I'm going to add my voice to those suggesting against the split. In addition to the points already made, it would also at least give the appearance of trying to manipulate the feature box.
As for "what next," I'm happy with whatever you do, but making the transition professional writing might be easier if you don't have a big, long-term fan project you feel committed to.
I'm partial to you finishing Broken accords. I love that story.
okies...

Ah, thanks.
I personally preferred the idea of having PH volumes split as they appeared in the Google Doc with their own volume summaries, but even a quick glance through the comments suggests this is a minority opinion.
So...
*Shrug*
As for what to write, I'm baised towards Broken Accords because I've already read some of that and have some existing investment in it, but I would not object to voting between first chapters of other ideas. Might find something I didn't know I would like that way. Write whatever you would like to try.
Even if you don't put it up to a vote, writing one chapter of each of your ideas might be a good thing, just so you could see a little more in depth about how you feel and how easy they would be for you to write.
I hope your work with Overmare Studios goes smoothly, sir.
I like the idea of Horizons staying as one big story.
Splitting it up seems like it would be confusing to me.
Like what this chap said 3402184
I agree with him on the matter.
I do believe only good can come of this
