Review: Kung Fury (2015) · 3:11am Aug 25th, 2015
You know, originally, I intended to give this a properly objective review, and point out any flaws I might have found in it, or anything I didn't like...
...but I can't do that. To do so would to deny the intentionally stupidly awesome insanity that is Kung Fury, an English language, Swedish, Kickstarter funded short film that is possibly the most insanely, awesomely stupid send up to pretty much every single 80s action movie cliche. Intentionally bad green screen effects, acting as stiff as a washboard, violence so absurdly over the top that it's beyond belief, and an absolutely AWESOME soundtrack that sounds like the ultimate 80s synth mix. To complain about any of these aspects would be completely missing the point of the film. The film is deliberately designed to be this kind of kitschy over the top insanity, and so complaining about it would be like complaining about a car driving down the road or a bird flying through the sky.
I mean, this is a movie where Kung Fu Hitler goes to the future just to be a jerk, and our hero, Kung Fury, has to go back in time to stop him. I don't want to spoil anything else, because if I tried to put it into words, it'd just sound insane (which it is).
So yeah, for anybody who loves cheesy 80s action flicks and the beautifully insane world they inhabit, this is the film for you. Bonus points: its available for free on YouTube!

There is also a $2 game on Steam based on this little flick. Hope to play it myself at some point.

The game's an awesome little One Finger Death Punch clone, presented as a 2-button arcade machine, with no goal at all except getting higher on the high scores list.
In other words, just like the movie, it's basically THE EIGHTIES
