Yoza. Rated PonyStar here. You know I read a lot of fanfiction, especially MLP, and there are tons of stories out there with different plots, themes and such. Some are similar, others are different.
But there are five types of stories I just love to read no matter what. There the kind of stories that make me sit on my bed with a cup of hot coco and waste time.
And since I'm bored while trying to gain inspiration, I've decided to use my blog to just...well talk.
Here are the top five MLP fanfic's types I love
Number 5: Evil/Tyrant Celestia
-I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who loves these fics and there are quite a few of them. I love the idea of having sweet caring Celestia be an utter cruel bitch. What would Twilight be like if she was raised by a cruel Celestia? Or learned her mentor was evil? What about Princess Luna?
Would she be that virtuous kind ruler who stands up to her sister, while looking like the bad guy? Or is she part of the evil as well? Plus, their are many ways you can go around with an "evil Celestia". You got your usual Tyrant Celestia, Works behind the shadow to enforce her rule Celestia, the "I'm god and your just an bug" Celestia and more. I don't count the "Possessed Celestia" because to me that's just not being evil on your own free will.
What I would like to see more of if the positions of where Celestia was the one who turned evil and Luna had to send her away to the sun or moon and she ruled both the night and day. Why aren't there more of those?
Oh well, it's a pretty cool idea for a pretty cool sun princess.
Number 4: Crossover with G1
Now I remember seeing both G1 and Tales when I was growing up as a kid. I hated it, but I respected G1 a bit because it was just a simple girls cartoon and sometimes it was actually interesting at moments. Tales is....well....moving on.
To be honest this type of fanfic is just starting to grow on me. I've read The Elements of Harmony and the Savior of Worlds by RK_Striker_JK_5 and a few other fics that feature the G1 and G4 intersect. I've got to say the way people make these fics are pretty good.
Like how in in Savior of the Worlds, Megan pretty much helped develop the society that the Ponies made in their own time by using earth technology and it evolved into the world of G4. She's a legend and a hero, heck she's like a messiah. Or how in Twilight Then, Twilight Now where G1 is the dark future that takes place after the Golden Age of G4.
It's pretty creative and I've got to say, very enjoyable.
Number 3: Origin Stories
-We all have our theories and our versions on how Equestria was made. Heck, I even plan on doing an Origin Story sometime in the future. I guess with an open world such as G4 you really can ask a lot of questions. How were ponies made? How did Celestia and Luna get their powers? Were their other Alicorns? What about Dragons and Griffins? Wars? Stuff like that.
We all have our theories and tons of stories exist that are each creative in their own way. Sure sometimes things like the Heart Warming Eve's episode can sometimes make our heads turn, but really good writers can adapt it into their stories and somehow make the connections.
It's also interesting when you see others try to make other previous generations establish themselves as the past of Equestria.
Origin Stories, in the end all we can do is guess.
Number 2: Background Ponies
Derpy, Lyra, Bon-Bon, Cheerliee, Colgate, Octavia, Blues, Caramel, Dr. Hooves, Berry Punch, do I need to go on?
It's amazing how many stories there are from these simple background ponies and just how creative and good they all are. The amount of fandom put into these guys is just mind blowing. I keep wondering if there are enough Background Pony Fanfics to challenge the number of Mane Cast Fanfics.
And the best part is that most of them pretty much can go with any catagory you can think off.
Romance? Lyra and Bon-Bon
Comedy? Derpy
Adventure? Dr. Hooves.
Tragedy? Blues
Grimdark? ...um....get back on that one.
Number 1: Spike Growing Up Stories
-Dear god, I feel moved everytime I read something that features a fic where Spike is realizing that one day he will outlive his friends or he's already done so. It's pretty obvious in canon that dragon live longer then ponies do, so the idea of Spike growing up and forced to change his lifestyle is an inevitable future.
It wouldn't be so bad if was the fact that Twilight and the others were eventually going to die and Spike would outlive them because he's younger. But the tragic thing is that Spike is going to be living so much longer that it will take ages for him to see his friends again in the afterlife. Sure he can make more friends, but, just like fanfics that feature the topic of Alicorn immortality, he's still going to outlive them and have to suffer that pain over and over again.
It's the fics that can capture this emotion, this soon to be tragedy, that moves me. In fact, these are the closest fics thave have gotten me to crying and I've read My Little Dashie.
Spike, the future is grey for him.
And those are my top five.
Now back to doing other things.
Numbers 2 and 1 would also be on my list, but I wouldn't personally be too keen on the other ones. But hey! If everypony thought the same we'd get tired of talking to each other.
I totally agree~ And Spike growing up fics are so sad ;~:
