    Author update!

I'm editing stuff! But also incredibly dried out of writing power atm. I'll get going again soon, but just bear with me for a bit. I'm publishing a chapter of XCOM today, then start on the daily writing (not publishing) again tomorrow morning. In the meantime, always remember:

    Remembering Koji Wada

Like every year, I like to remember the man/legend responsible for the theme songs of one of my favorite shows of all time on the anniversary of his death.

So if you were wondering about the timing for the latest Isekai chapters? There you go.

    Welp, here's a life update

These last couple of weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster. Good things have happened, and also bad ones. No wonder I could relate to both Furina and Navia in the latest Isekai chapter. Sometimes pretending things are fine is really exhausting, even if they do get better.

    Welp, another year older and...

...still writing ponies. (Among other things, granted.)

Update to the Isekai coming tonight! And some additional details and change of plans.

First, to everyone waiting patiently for the next Isekai chapter, I apologize for the delay. I know there are a lot of people that want to see another visit to Hell happen soon, and it will, I promise. However, due to some circumstances, I decided for a different pair of visitors to visit the bar this week.

It took me until today... · 2:04am Aug 16th, 2015

...but I finally sat down with my son to watch Tonari No Totoro.

That it took me so long is a great crime indeed. Without a doubt this has to be one of the best animations ever and definitely one of the best moments I've had sitting down and enjoying a movie with him. Next... I think I'll try Pom Poko or maybe Porco Rosso (Too bad in English, "Buta-yaro!" looses so much!)

I have such a huge amount of really good anime to show him. And not the over-the-top, over-hyped, mass-produced BS that is flooding the world with pretty-looking-but-crappy stories. Attackon*cough*Titan*cough*

I mean the real gems. Tokyo Godfathers, Millenium Actress, Summer Wars (for the fourth time), Whisper of the Heart, Nausicaa (yes, even if it's just a tiny fraction of the manga), Wolf Children, Paprika (when he's older), Memories, Robot Carnival, etc. Stuff that is so good we don't get crappy dubs from Saban Entertainment destroying backstories or meaningful things.

In other words, things you can show to anyone with a modicum of taste and they will admit it's amazing, even if it's not their thing.

I guess there's really no replacing the classics.

Totoro really is a good neighbor.

Ah, Paprika... What a trip.

Studio Ghibli is my spirit animal.

Wolf Children

Finally saw that movie. So good.

Porco Rosso is definitely worth a watch...:yay:

Summer Wars (for the fourth time)

Aww, D, now I feel all happy that I'm following you!

I'm glad Wanderer E enjoyed it!

Doesn't summer wars have the same plot as one of the digimon movies?

What about Hi no Tori? I don't know if it's exactly "for" American kids; American tradition of talking down and all that (it deals with some stuff like rebirth and immortality and what-have-you), but it's a really beautiful piece when taken as a whole.

Edit: I watched it when it first aired, at the age of 18 or so, and I was a bit lost until the end.

3322601 Oh dude, Hi no Tori and Bagi are both in my list of stuff to show him. Believe you me.

Attackon*cough*Titan*cough*

Them's fightin' words, boy.

3322599 No, Summer Wars was going to be a Digimon Movie, but it was turned into something else entirely. You should watch it if you haven't. And as much as I love Digimon, I'm glad it didn't end up being one and was kept away from the monsters that butchered that series in all incarnations.

3322605
Take these and be placated:

[youtube=3sj4yJ4MPYA]

[youtube=DcgPjt7VYVo]

I especially like the second one.

3322608
D… No. Summer Wars and Our War Game were samey as hell in terms of visuals, plot, and even name. Did you never see the latter? It's out and out a prototype for the former.

3322630 Eh. I blocked out Our War Game. Doesn't matter tho. One is a classic for all time, the other is the one Digimon Movie I apparently forced my mind to erase. I probably saw it in English or something.

Wolf Children is amazing, I was given Summer Wars as a christmas present and I've watched it three times so far... might I suggest Spice And Wolf, for a series? there's actually a joke with it. "Given a choice between showing the naked wolf girl and Japanese economics, they'll show the economics".

Log Horizon is also highly recommended.

3322638 Oh, all of the fuck the English Digimon movie. It condensed THREE of them into one. Including Our War Game, which I probably would have appreciated in the original Japanese.

3322638 English one was 3 movies cut and pasted together into one very confusing movie that had horrible pacing.

3322660
3322658 That is probably why I ignored the shit out of it.

Wanderer D

3322648 Well, I don't know about series. I love Spice and Wolf, but I'd rather do this as a movie-night thing for now. *IF* he decides later on in life to watch anime, then sure, I'll have plenty of series to recommend, but I don't want to steer him into it, ya know?

Would you say Log Horizon is good, Deleteh? Glad to hear that Wanderer Soareh is learning the ways of the good anime. X3
(And I've never really seen many movies, so I'll be using these as recommendations for myself. <.< )

3322725 'fraid I haven't watched that much anime in the last few years, Trev.

I really like Kadokawa anime, but they are more of a teenage action/romance series like 'The Girl Who Leapt Through Time' or 'Eden of the East' in my opinion. I didn't particularly like 'Wolf Children,' and I couldn't sit through 'Paprika' as I was reminded of movies like 'The Cell' and 'inception.' It just kind of spoils the story when you're reminded of a vanity project like 'The Cell' or 'Jupiter Ascending' for instance. Because of this I would put 'Paprika in the one time viewing anime category like 'Future Diary' or 'Code Geass.'

However, 'Nobody's Boy Remi' might be something you're interested in, it starts off a bit like 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and has a bit of 'Oliver Twist.' And, I believe there was a mayor who credited the story for having a profound influence on his life. The anime is styled similarly to 'Lupin the Third' artistically.

Apart from all the suggestions listed/given already, I really liked Tekkonkinkreet. Though depending on his age you may want to wait a bit, as it has some violence to it. :unsuresweetie:

3322725 Log Horizon is very good, but it's more character and plot driven than it's sibling SAO. So don't expect characters to get more powerful to overcome a challenge, or face some enemy to prove their worth.
For a good example, there is an episode in season 1 which is almost entirely a bunch of people sitting around a table and talking. It's interesting, and vital to the plot, but it's also a perfect example of the kind of show it is.

3322737 Sadness... I really like it, and I wanted to know from a pro if it's ACTUALLY good Anime, or if I'm being brainwashed somehow. XD

3322773 Yeah, I remember Remi. Damn sad story.

3322573
Seconding this.

Nausicaa (yes, even if it's just a tiny fraction of the manga)

Wait what?
Theres a Nausicaa manga? How am I just learning this now?

3322852 Go buy it. Thank me later.

3322852
It gets kind of crazy. Doesn't go off the rails or anything, just carries a bit of a "wow" factor as I remember it.

Whisper of the Heart's been on my rewatch list for a long time, since I still remember that great cover of Country Roads in Japanese at the core of it...

--arcum42

3322852 quite a few anime are based off of manga. While sometimes that's a good thing, there were several times, especially in the 80s and 90s, where they would take a 50-60 issue series and make an hour-long movie out of it. That's not trimming down a story; that's amputation...:pinkiecrazy:

Attack on Titan has a ton of thought put into the characters, development, lore, and symbolism. I'm honestly a little curious as to why with all the legitimately crap anime out there now you would call out that one. Is it like a hipster can't like it if its too main stream type of thing going on?

It's all great stuff, but don't be disappointed if he doesn't like "Millenium Actress" or "Tokyo Godfathers". They aren't kids' stories. Most little kids genuinely prefer stuff like Kiki's Delivery Service, which was for me (seeing it as an adult) one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. They're not wrong; they're just not adults.

What about Ponyo?
I liked it when I saw it, at age 10.

3322682

Fair point. Sisters know when I got into Log Horizon, I was itching for new episodes and binging hard once a season ended. And season 3 is going to be quite a while.

As for Spice and Wolf, however, that's only got two seasons, and the second season's actually kinda tough to find, so not a lot of time lost...

3322665

as someone who hunted down the Japanese version I can say with all certainty

I know exactly why they cut it up.

sure it made it infinitely worse but our war game on it's own while not terrible is not actually too remarkable your not missing too much id actually recommend the english version over it.

3322852
I think it actually has two movies... why are you shocked there's a manga?

3325130
I'm not shocked there's a manga, I'm shocked it took me this long to find out about it, considering how much I read. But then again I mostly read ongoing manga rather then completed ones. Not a whole lot of places I can buy manga around here, and not really a fan of buying books online (not sure why, I just don't)

3325186
I think you can pick up most mainstream ongoing manga at the library or find them through quasi-legitimate online intermediaries like webtoons, mangafox, or crunchyroll. However, if you're planning on buying manga you should get hardcover versions of Courtney Crumrinn. I found it better than many comics I've read and it was more memorable than many tokyopop or viz titles.

3325186 Nausicaa is complete as well, so it's a good buy if you get them.

Moribito's not on that list? Shame.

Whow, no Trigun, Cowboy Beep Bop, Ghost in the Shell, Spice and Wolf (Heresy. Dub was far better than Sub) or even full metal alchemist in the expected future?

Gotta have that spice and wolf man, one or two episodes a night, savor the blue ray HD quality animation and voice acting. None of that shitty 240p crap from Anime/werenotloadedwithviruses.com

3329369 movies, bro. Most of those are series.

3329423
That's why you watch two or three episodes a night. Its like sampling fine wine or enjoying a bottle of brandy over a couple months, slowly developing the pallet to enjoy it in its fullest.

Shit be tight yo.
