I started to listen to this.
Suddenly, everything was in perfect clarity. I knew what I needed to listen to so I could better express Tarnished Teapot's and Maud Pie's love. quirky Leonard Cohen love songs. Mang, all of a sudden, I was feeling the love.
I had this beautiful moment of clarity where I could identify with characterisation. Especially with the song Iodine, which has the Phil Spector Wall of Sound effect going on. Eh, there is a reference that is probably lost on most of the people reading this, but that's okay.
I needed you, I knew I was in danger
of losing what I used to think was mine
You let me love you till I was a failure,
You let me love you till I was a failure --
Your beauty on my bruise like iodine
I asked you if a man could be forgiven
And though I failed at love, was this a crime?
You said, Don't worry, don't worry, darling
You said, Don't worry, don't you worry, darling
There are many ways a man can serve his time
I just hope that this post will get at least one person listening to Leonard Cohen.
As long as it's not the bittersweet "my love life failed. Now I am melancholy, lonely, and old, but it's not that bad, I guess."
On the other hand, I see Hallelujah's bittersweet ending as weirdly triumphant... just not the raincoat song.
