I'd be willing to help once my eyes are feeling better. I can do custom php programming and/or prebuilt CMS/wiki stuff. Explain further what you want to do and what your timetable is. What kind of hosting are you going to do? Are you going to go for an ad-supported free wiki host or do you want to run your own virtual-host? I just got my PRK eye surgery done last Thursday and am healing everyday but I still don't see good enough to spend hours on the computer yet. Send me a PM telling me what you want me to do.

The last time I looked, the free wiki hosting companies put their ads onto your wiki. It will most likely cost some money to host a wiki without ads. PHP programming is the most popular server sided programming language used on websites. Most wiki software is written in php and eventually as you use your wiki you may want a special feature that isn't included in the default package so programming php allows you to extend the capabilities of the software. You won't be able to modify any php code on any of the free hosting options. Only the pay-for webhosting solutions will allow you the system access that is needed to modify code.

In simplest terms, a CMS, content management system, is a server-sided suite of php scripts that manage a website. Examples of full-featured CMS are wordpress, drupal and joomala. Instead of editing HTML files with notepad and uploading them to a webserver each time you want to update your website you instead use a CMS to update the look, functionality and content of your website. A wiki is a CMS that I don't consider a full featured CMS but does make it easier to organize and maintain basic linked information. To make an informative website like wikipedia, a wiki is certainly the best choice. But depending on what your goals for your website are, wordpress or joomala may be a better choice. Wordpress is a blogging platform that can be extended beyond just being a blog. Joomala is between wordpress and drupal as far as what's in the box to start. But wordpress has more modules. Drupal is a CMS that doen't know what it wants to be and is very difficult to get under control. It's the most flexible and most extensible. Drupal is capable of being a blog, wiki and news website at the same time. The downside is that it's performance stinks and requires expert level php programming and some serious training in using drupal itself to make it do your bidding. Fimfiction.net is also a CMS, but it's: custom coded, closed source and special purpose.

Ah ok then. Well uh I guess you should know that I want to make a wiki for Equestrian Earth sometime in the future for the purpose of having an easy reference to go to and could help with the world-building process of the story. I don't believe I need a wiki that has a blog feature since most of the time I release news on Equestrian Earth on fimfic.
I guess for that, using Wikia would be fine.

Alright, cool. The ads shouldnt really be an issue anyway, my ad blocker eliminates all of them. I signed up for an account on wikia. Let me know what you call your wikia after you create it. My username on wikia is the same as it is on fimfiction.

I don't think you need to find or follow me on the wiki. Goto the create a wiki button: http://www.wikia.com/Special:CreateNewWiki

Give it the name and the address that you want. Then give it a description, choose a hub category and subcategorie(s). Choose a theme and your wiki is made. You shouldn't need to give me special access to make or edit pages by default. All I'd need is the address of your wiki. And what you want me to do.

3312633 Well i gave it the address, which is here at equestrianearth.wikia.com, but the creation process kinda fucked up halfway when I was picking themes. Thankfully the address was saved.

But I kinda want to go back to give it a Hub and its sub-category (or whatever it's called), but uh I don't know how to go back to it cause the address is already made and the createNewWiki refuses to go further.

There's supposed to be an admin toolbar if you are admin on your wiki.

The page: http://equestrianearth.wikia.com/wiki/Special:ListUsers shows who has rights on your wiki. Right now, nobody has admin. Your wiki is messed up just like mine. :(
