Baltim(h)or(s)e Ponefest 2k15 (Or: It Doesn't Count As Bandwagoning If This Is My Third Year Going) · 4:29am Aug 6th, 2015
It's that magical time of year again: the Premier League season's ready to kick off, 70% of the site's insisting to their parents that the morally and sociopolitically infamous release of Go Set A Watchman is totally the reason why they never bothered to do their summer reading homework for its dumb prequel or whatever, and those of us with the geographic and/or economic means to do so are converging on the lovely city of Baltimore, Maryland for its annual festival of horsefuckery.
Read as: I'm going to Bronycon, doing a bunch of media things for EqD*, and sitting on several panels run by people who, at this point, really should've known better. Should you care to come watch the proverbial** fireworks, though, my personal programming schedule is as follows:
Saturday, August 8th
Love is in Bloom***: Shipping and Writing Romance in Fandom (5:30-6:30 PM, Hall of the Moon)
Join some of the fandom's top romance writers and most ardent shippers as they discuss why fans dedicate their time and energy to telling the stories of likely, unlikely, or darn-near impossible relationships between characters. They'll also offer advice to other writers on how to do it well.
Also starring: bookplayer, Sunchaser, Scoots2, maybe a fifth I'll edit this later once I figure it out
Worlds Beyond: Crossovers in Fanfiction 2015 (10:30-11:30 PM, Hall of the Stars)
Worlds Beyond returns with another in-depth discussion of crossovers in fanfiction: why we love them, what makes them stand out, and tips for aspiring writers!
Also starring: ABagOVicodin, Wanderer D, GaPJaxie, CapnChryssalid, CyborgSamurai
Sunday, August 9th
Writing Comedy: How To Make Your Horses Hilarious (10:00-11:00 AM, Hall of the Moon)
Writing good comedy is no joke. It's easy to fill a script with unnatural gags, but real humor is a delicate balancing act. Five acclaimed veterans of comedic fanfiction will discuss not only how to write comedy well, but also how to incorporate comedy naturally into non-comedic stories—and how comedy can help you convey even the most serious messages.
Also starring: GaryOak, ABagOVicodin, totallynotabrony, Skywriter****
Couple points of note: First, I unfortunately won't be able to be on the Equestria Daily panel this year due to a time conflict with Romance, but if you want to sprint back and forth between both of them while they're happening, I'll try to give you a shout-out whenever you come crashing in. Should be good for a laugh. Second, GaPJaxie and I have both tried our hands at BioShock crossovers in this fandom, so part of the Crossover panel will involve us comparing our two takes on the concept and, God willing, arm-wrestling to determine which one is superior*****.
*whenever we get a damn schedule for the press events
**I've been informed that I'm not allowed to set off actual fireworks inside the con hall, and also that "Well, that's no way to throw a goddamn party" is not a valid line of argument against that position.
***something something linguistic irony
****I'm not fucking around here. We seriously got Skywriter in the flesh. Turn the hell up for this one, folks.
*****As opposed to checking which one wasn't abandoned****** a quarter of the way through.
******(maybe)
How did they even let this happen
Well, who the fuck sets off fireworks inside?
You crazy, man.
Are you doing the arm-wrestling yourself, or can you each pick champions from the audience to arm-wrestle on your behalf? That's the classy way to do it.
Dat foreshadowing, tho...

A promise kept is different from foreshadowing.
