The pros and cons of show length and progress on the new story outline · 11:16am Jul 28th, 2015
Hello everypony (anypony is probably a better choice of word though XD)
The longer a show runs on, the more you have to work with but at the same time the more restricted you get in your writing, at least if you want to stick (more or less anyway) with the canon. You have to account for more and more details revealed directly or indirectly in the show. It gets to the point where you either need to retcon some important things (such as Twilicorn, for example not that I'm planning on doing that!) meaning your story would essentially be taking place in an alternate universe/timeline, or have your story take place in place without the usual characters. I'll be trying to keep to the canon inasmuch as I can. I will also probably reference the fanon a bit (mainly Winningverse), but those will just be nods and winks, not actually incorporating them into part of my own story's canon.
So where am I on progress? Still working on solutions and fleshing out some character details. I might just take the easy way out with the ending, simply because I would otherwise paint myself into a corner, where the only routes to go are "Easy and nice", or "Bittersweet". Bittersweet has its place, but I don't like it much. I still might go the bittersweet route if that's what it takes to have a good ending though. I won't say any more on that because it would spoil it more than I already have, though story tags spoil things a fair bit on their own, don't they? I still have yet to decide whether my main (human) character will be aware of the show or not. It has its pros and cons in regards to the story and would affect the direction of the plot at times, not to mention less important scenes.
In the interim I've been adding some scene ideas to my list, including one or two semi-important ones I think.
I'm going on vacation for several days, and will be back on Friday, not that anypony on FiMFiction will care or notice I expect, seeing as I have not written a story in a while and I rather lack followers ATM (hopefully I'll get a few when I finally do write). I'm hoping that by the time I get back, I'll have decided on an ending and will be ready to outline chapters. I'm hoping that in a week or two I will be ready to start writing for real. I intend to create a backlog of chapters in case I get stuck or busy or something.
