A pretty short list for last month - it was a bit of a hectic one.
The Destruction of the Self by Cold in Gardez
Does CiG ever write something that isn't good? Anyway, his latest effort is a sad and rather unsettling look at why exactly some of the ponies in Starlight Glimmer's town would choose to live there. Definitely worth a read.
The Trials Three by NorsePony
I've been following this guy for quite a while, in a vain attempt to get myself to finally read The War And What Came After, which is exactly the kind of story I know I would love, and yet have not found the motivation to read yet.
Anyway, this story certainly proves that NorsePony is very much my kind of author. An equestrian twist on a fairy tale - the old, deliciously dark kind, not the sugary sweet Disney version - that also provides a great deal of backstory to events in the show, this is certainly not something you should miss if you are in to that kind of storytelling.
Lost by OleGrayMane
I'm going to be upfront about this - I helped to edit this piece. However, I wouldn't be recommending it here if I didn't think it was very, very good. In a relatively small space, OleGrayMane crafts a very believable and evocative world, and ties it in wonderfully with the main theme and characters of the show we know and love. Go check it out.
Three Gems And A Scooter by RaylanKrios
Before anyone goes "EURGH ITS SCOOTADOPT HOW TERRIBLE ARGLEBLARGLE", please do hear me out. Yes, this is a highly overplayed trope - but the thing about overplayed ideas isn't that they are bad, it's that they are done badly a freaking boatload of times.
And then you find the good ones.
This is one them. It's unfinished, but it updates reasonably regularly, and has spot on characterisation.
Spotlight Review is here.
Yes, and that story is it.
WRITE IT BIG, AUTHORS!
