Aaaaand I have a decent reason for my long absence. Decent-ish, at least?
Essentially, I found out around April that I would be moving to Japan to teach English for a year (minimum, potentially longer). As you can imagine, I then spent the next few months freaking out a bit and trying to get ready to go.
This has all paid off nicely, as I'm currently sitting in my new apartmen on a tatami floor in the small seaside town of Usami, Shizuoka. It's pretty sweet.
More to come later (including plenty of pictures!) once I finally have internet setup, but two quick updates first:
1) I have actually been writing over the last few months, mostly with the lovely folks over at the writeoff. Go check it out if you're looking for somewhere to polish up your skills and your speed! They do original fic contests as well if you're interested in that. Nothing is currently polished up, but once I'm a bit more settled in I should get a few done, and then you'll all be complaining that there are too many Meri-fics floating around!
2) OleGrayMane, who is objectively the bestTM, has been recording some messages from some of you lovely people who he met at TrotCon and BronyCon (I think? I'm not 100% sure which con the first one was, might have been BabsCon?). I'll be sending off some personal messages a bit later (again, no internet--this is currently burning through my phone data!) but I do want to just say a general thank you. Those messages have made my month as much as moving to Japan has, which should say a lot because moving to Japan has been FUCKING AWESOME.

Do you speak Japanese? Japan is at the top of both my "Most want to visit" and "Least likely to visit" lists. I stopped writing fantasy & science fiction when I realized Japan made them both seem mundane.
