Closure: Full plot spoilers for Smoke here

Consider yourselves warned: this whole post is a spoiler. We're well past the point that the only realistic thing is that Smoke is done, so for anyone who wanted to know what had been planned, well, may this post provide you some closure. I'm certain to have forgotten things or misremembered them. It's been a while. But Smoke has only relatively recently stopped attracting new

    Tumblr porn ban

As most of you know, Tumblr's banning porn on the 17th of this month. Since Smoke is pretty well dead in the water, I won't be bothering to relocate any of the images or other content from the Smoke Tumblr. If you came upon this story after I quit working on it and weren't aware there were images, here's your chance to see them before they're gone. Otherwise, it's your chance to archive them

    Cut content

So, about a week ago, while naked and wet (just a shower, sadly...), I actually felt a little like working on Smoke again. I haven't yet, and don't know if I will. Let's start off with the honest disclaimers: if you've been here, you know not to get your hopes up when I say anything, and I know not to make any promises. Which is why I didn't post anything that night--I had to dig

    Still not dead.

I received a PM from Rozen Knight letting me know that some of you were worried about me. That's flattering, but I'm okay. If you followed me two years ago, you know that I'm coming up on a terrible time of year for me emotionally, but that's not why there's been radio silence. It's just that there's been nothing to say. No progress, and I assure you that I'm as tired of making empty promises

    News

Current chapter is progressing terribly. Can't claim burnout since I've not put out a chapter in months, but something's not working. Chapter's going on the back burner while I put together a piece that builds Smoke's events in parallel with the main story. Style will be different, trying to shift gears. Sorry for the abysmal rate of updates, guys. Once that's done, I'll pick up the

TMI Tuesday 7/7/15 results · 4:33am Jul 9th, 2015

Since several readers have pointed out that they don't want to touch the tumblr (for which I can't blame them; I hate Tumblr myself), I figured I'd copy the Q&A over here for such people. These are all the questions I got the other day, and my answers.

anonymous asked:
Ever considered a 'what-if' story where Jade is the one who gets the smoke and she smokes Done in the caves?
I have! In fact, on the Smoke survey, one of the questions was what kind of side stories people were interested in, and this was one of the options, word for word: “"What if/alternate setting" stories (What if Done stayed in the Crystal Empire? What if Jade found the smoke?”

The smoke is different depending on the pony who controls it. In Jade’s case, it wouldn’t be sexual at all. She’d certainly be able to get laid if she decided she wanted to, but the sexual side effects wouldn’t be a thing.

arthek asked:
What would be the Equestrian government stance on Done's powers? Even if they didn't know what he did with it, would the fact that he can easily use mind control magic make him too dangerous to leave free?
They’d definitely want him kept under watch, yes. If they were unaware of the sexual side effects, they might want to put his power to use trying to help ponies. (He can’t undo a mental illness, but he could provide some pretty powerful hypnotherapy, of a sort.)

It wouldn’t be long before they figured it out, though, and that would be the end of that. Done would have to be either “fixed” somehow, or incapacitated.

anonymous asked:
Any chance we'll get more hoof licking? :3
No reason it couldn’t happen. If a pony made Done angry enough, he might put them in their place that way, and Rainy does have a canon appearance coming in part 2 (a long way off) which would almost certainly see her licking hooves again. Rainy’s owner has been a reader long enough that he’s a friend, and we talk about Rainy sometimes. There are no immediate plans, but if I feel like a non-canon side story using someone else’s OC, it’s possible that Rainy could make another appearance that way.

anonymous asked:
What was your inspiration for Smoke?
Honestly? I was unhappy with how things had ended up with The Hypnotic Adventures of Blank Sheet*, and wanted to write some mind control clop where I had full authorial control. Most mind-control methods work for me, minus “realistic” hypnosis and “LOL my butt is hypnotizing you LOLOL” stuff, but something entering the body (spore, gas, nanite, whatever) is a favorite of mine. Considering the smoke shrouding Sombra in the S3 premiere, and how he was blown up, with the horn plainly intact and flying away, it felt like a perfect fit.

*For those who may not realize it, I was the writer responsible for converting LightMask’s The Hypnotic Adventures of Blank Sheet from a greentext to an actual fic. With the exception of chapter 13, which was entirely my own work, all of Blank Sheet came from a greentext on a now-defunct image board. A lot of it was my ideas/submissions, but I didn’t have control, and eventually that started causing problems, leading me to leave the project.

anonymous asked:
If Done was an unicorn, would the smoke have given him more magic powers?
Not exactly, but it would certainly have enhanced his ability to use the smoke effectively. Sombra will always have been more powerful than Done. There will never come a time where Done could cause black crystal spikes to appear all over a city. That’s because he isn’t a unicorn. If he were, he’d have better fine control of the smoke, it would tire him less (though he’s getting better at holding up there!), he’d be less likely to lose control, and over time, it would actively corrupt his horn, resulting in the Sombra-esque curve, and most likely enabling use of unicorn magic “colored” by the smoke’s corruption.

anonymous asked:
Does Done Deal know how to play any instrument?
Piano (don’t ask how hooves do that; it doesn’t make any more sense than Octavia) and violin. He’s rusty, though; it’s been years.

anonymous asked:
Doing anything special for Smoke's 400 upvote event?
Nothing close enough to the 400th upvote to count, really. I’d have loved to have commissioned art ready, but certain hobbies used up my spendable money for June, and I have shit luck with most artists. The chapter after next won’t exactly advance the plot, but it also won’t be “PC,” and could be looked at as special, though.

anonymous asked:
If you got to choose three fictional characters you wrote and three you didn't in real life, who would they be and why?
I’m not quite clear on what you mean here. 3 fictional I wrote and three I didn’t for… what in real life? Just to know/be friends with? I’ll answer assuming that’s what you meant, but if not, feel free to send another question and I’ll respond to that, too.

Of the characters I wrote, I’d pick Peach Pit, Deep Tissue, and probably Day Planner. Peach Pit, because I have no calming, comforting force in my life at all since MLP and I parted ways, and Peach would be great at those things; Deep Tissue because I love massages, and a gorgeous flirt sounds fun, and Day Planner because… well, short of someone like Day Planner stepping into my life, there’s no way I’ll ever really get organized.

Of characters I did not write, Centorea Shianus from Monster Musume, Kyoraku Shunsui from Bleach, and either Saber from Fate/Stay or Holo from Spice and Wolf. Centorea is a very honorable, respectful centaur, who (like Day) would likely get me sorted out, just by very different means, and for different aspects of my life; Kyouraku Shunsui because he seems like a perfect example of how to live life–serious as hell when necessary, but otherwise laid back and friendly; and Holo or Saber… actually, let’s just go with Holo. Saber I adore, but we wouldn’t get along if she actually existed. Holo would be fun and keep me on my toes better than anyone I can imagine, but is also very wise and clever. I don’t think she’d be very impressed with me though.

Honorable mention: Caster from Fate/Extra, Yukiko Amagi from Persona 4, Labrys from Persona 4: Arena.

anonymous asked:
If Done had to choose between his girls, who would he keep?
Ouch. I assume you mean he can only keep one. The answer is unquestionable: Pirouette. She’s been his best friend for years, and is responsible in no small part for the success of his business. She is, absolutely, the best thing to ever happen to him. He doesn’t show it enough, simply because he’s too comfortable and takes her for granted, but she’s very important to him.

That said, if he could only save one, and all the others were lost to him, he’d be absolutely devastated. We’re talking bottom of the bottle, probably never recovering type damage.

anonymous asked:
If you could have hypnosis art of any character, who would it be?
Peach Pit, absolutely. She’s the one character in Smoke where I flat out said “this one is for ME, and I’m making the mare I want. Warm, affectionate personality, cute in general, longer than normal wings, crotchboobs, long, long mane. Yes. <_<

novemberwolf-fim asked:
A question for TMI Tuesday: Ninjas, Pirates, Zombies, and Robots. Rank them!
There’s going to be a caveat in here: robots can actually go anywhere on the list but last, depending on the type. This is because you didn’t specify what kind of robot. If it’s an industrial robot like those in actual factories, bleh. If it’s a very realistic, servile gynoid, it’s number one, instantly. <_< So, aside from that:

Ninjas
Pirates
Zombies.

Ask Fable how I feel about zombies. :P

novemberwolf-fim asked:
Another (more relevant) question for TMI Tuesday: How did you discover/get into MLP? Also, once/if Smoke is finished, are there any other story ideas which you'd wish to write?
Nothing exciting to tell here. It got mentioned by a coworker; I mentioned that to my best friend, and he made me watch Episode Zero. Next thing I knew, I was binge watching until I’d seen all of season 1 and as much of season 2 as had aired at the time.

If/when Smoke finishes, there won’t likely be any more MLP stories from me, ever. I’m completely out of love with MLP, and want to be done with it, really, but I refuse to abandon Smoke. That’s why the Smoke survey asked if people would be interested in non-Smoke content from me, and about Patreon.

anonymous asked:
What was your favorite chapter to write? And what is your favorite chapter, content wise?
It’s hard to say. Favorite to write would probably be “Kids Today and their Music.” Favorite content-wise actually depends. For clop, probably “Frosting Indeed,” as I tend to like heavier domination than I usually do in Smoke, and the mess/inflation, with “…but Verify” being a close second for the physical transformations, but losing points since Peach Pit really was just pushed a little ways to go from fawning hero-worship to practically nearly literal worship.

For story content, right now it’s “Venture Capital,” but to be honest I’m not sure if that’s just because it was such a relief for me to actually move the plot forward again. If I rule that out, just because it may be getting unfair bonus points, then my favorite would be… “Kids Today and their Music” again. I like how I handled Vinyl, Mane Event (or was it Main? Goddammit), and Bruises in that chapter, and it set up more than people realize.

arthek asked:
When you started Smoke, how big was it originally going to be?
30,000 words, 40,000 tops. I certainly wasn’t planning on PART ONE ALONE being three full novels long BEFORE I FINISH. Gah. If Brevity is the soul of wit, I am Carrot Top.

anonymous asked:
I know you aren't going to do gay scenes, but what about Done smoking both a stallion and a mare and just letting them fuck? Incidentally, does the smoke make stallions gay for Done?
He’d need a reason. Done doesn’t resort to the smoke for nothing (though he certainly doesn’t require much pushing), and just randomly having some mare and some stallion get it on doesn’t seem to benefit anyone. If he HAD a reason, he wouldn’t hesitate.

As for the smoke making a stallion gay, the amount of effort/quantity of smoke needed to change a pony goes up the more the desired change is against their nature. It would absolutely be possible for Done to cause a pony to change his or her orientation, but it would NOT be a minor undertaking. Pretty much anything he’d want to do with a straight stallion would require less smoke than needed for changing sexual preference, so it would never happen by accident. At most, a straight stallion would start feeling like Done counts as really handsome, even if they’re not interested.

anonymous asked:
What has been your overall favorite part of writing Smoke so far?
Readers, absolutely. People enjoying it and eager for more, and the handful with whom I’ve struck up friendships have made it worth it, even on days when I otherwise wish I’d never started writing Smoke.

anonymous asked:
Derp. I meant which characters would you meet once, say for a half hour to an hour; not as entities that stick around in your life.
Ah, I see. Just to meet them… characters that I didn’t write would probably stay the same, actually. Characters that I did? Pirouette, to reassure her that Done cares about her, Primavera, to taste really excellent food for once in my life (my allergies rule out nice restaurants, but they can be avoided by a talented chef free to select dishes for me), aaaaand… Deep Tissue still. I’d promise to write her in for the best night of her life with Done in return for the best massage ever. <_<

muffinpony36 asked:
How do you ask a video game about your feelings over zombies
In my day, you just typed and hoped the parser understood!

(Fable in that case meant Fable Wright, my editor.)

anonymous asked:
Hey, top three characters thing looks fun. Which three characters you did/didn't write would you LEAST want as mortal nemesises?
I wouldn’t want Mane Event as a nemesis, because he’s a douche canoe and screw dealing with someone like that at all. I wouldn’t want Desert Rose as a nemesis, because I’d have no chance; she’d just shank me. I wouldn’t waaaaant… actually, sorry, but the third would be a spoiler. Going one down the list to avoid spoiling, I wouldn’t want Shimmering Scales as a nemesis, because she’d probably prank me until I begged her to just kill me off. <_<

Of those I didn’t write, I wouldn’t want Wintermute as a nemesis, because super powerful AIs just aren’t good to be enemies with. I wouldn’t want the main villain of Persona 4 as a nemesis, because that guy’s just fucked up. (Sorry for being vague, but that’d spoil Persona 4. It’s been out forever, but it’s just too good to spoil for people.) I wouldn’t want Superman as a nemesis because losing to a shitty Mary Sue would suck. <_<

fishy-pony asked:
How many people are employed at the restaurant? So far we know of Tall Order, one other waiter, Primavera and Amber.
This is an area that’s not fully fleshed out, and I’ve never worked in the restaurant business, so I don’t actually know what’s realistic, I’m afraid. Primavera owns it, rules the kitchen with an iron hoof (but doesn’t get to throw fits anymore), and she’d probably need at least 5 in the kitchen at any time, I’d imagine. Tall Order is the maitre d’, but obviously can’t be there at all times, so they probably have one, maybe two more in that role (unless restaurants only have one, and just do without otherwise–see my mention of allergies excluding me from nice restaurants in another question). It’s a classy, fairly expensive restaurant, so the wait staff needs to be reasonably large. Slow service because it’s a busy night is not okay. Then also some cleaning staff (Amber is on that), dishwashers, and so on.

So… a bunch? <_<

anonymous asked:
Wait, Done isn't on your top 3 "Do not want as nemesis" list? What? And what could Shimmer possibly do that would make her that bad as a nemesis?
Done is actually not on my top three “do not want as nemeses” list. He’d at least put me out of my misery quickly. Shimmer? She’d freeze my junk or worse every day until I begged for mercy. Frozen junk: do not want.

anonymous asked:
Wait. Shimmer would stop after you begged for mercy?
Sure! People just begging for mercy aren’t too useful, but if I’m AT that point, she can probably make me do something useful for her in exchange for a break from suffering!
