XCOM 2 modding, Lets Play, Mente Materia, and a disturbing thought. · 10:56pm Jun 8th, 2015

IGN released an article today about mods for XCOM 2. I have to say that I'm -extremely- interested in the process at this point. Depending on how much of an involved process it is, I may have to explore a possible Mente Materia mod. Now involved that mod becomes is going to be dependent upon a number of factors that will come into play once we get closer to release.

Anywho! In the event that the modding process is totally unassailable to me (or if it's relatively easy to monkey with), I was also thinking of doing some form of lets play with XCOM 2 when it comes out. Since it will be entirely new for everyone involved, it would be an entirely different beast than when I had initially pitched the idea for an XCOM Lets Play a few months back. Of course, I have never attempted anything of the sort, so I'll have to brush up on HOW to do it, first.

Before ANY of that can be done, though, I -need- to get Mente Materia finished. No, I'm not saying that it's going to be wrapped up in like five chapters. If I don't increase my current rate of writing, I probably won't get done before November. So, I'm going to try and burn the candle at both ends to try and get as much done as I can.

And lastly, one of the readers for Stardust had a very disturbing idea.

I could make the joke Fluttershy chapter in Stardust canon. I expect all you intrepid moderators to create butter yellow/pink skins for the aliens of the 'Harmony Administration' within a week of XCOM 2 coming out. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Who was the one with the disturbing idea? The number doesn't show anything.

(>>numbers only works within a single comments section (comments belonging to a particular story or blog post))

If you want that disturbing idea to be in the link, you need the entire URL for that to work.

(can't read the linked comment: use a quote?)

Mente Materia mod? Yes, please! :pinkiehappy:

3133284 This is my most favorite thing ever.
Inspired by the SCP Foundation's Things Dr. Bright is Not Allowed to do at the Foundation, perhaps?

I would love to play that mod.
Hmm would be the test to check if a soldier has the gift scratch Twilight ears? XD

If you do a Let's Play, make sure you use a proper microphone! If you don't want to do research into specific microphones, the Blue Yeti is a good mic to default to. It's very popular for youtubers. I got one too, and I'm very happy with it. Oh, and get a pop filter too :)

Hmm, a Mente Materia mod? Considering how creative you are with coming interesting alternatives for weapons and stuff, that would be surely interesting. As for the modding itself, I'm sure you could get help from a few programmer (which technically I am). The art part though...

As a programmer I've been envisioning a Mente Materia mod for a while now but never bothered because of XCOM: Enemy Unknown's limitations (also because I'm not artistically inclined and suck at modeling) When XCOM2 comes around shoot me a PM if you want some help lightening the programming load for your mod. Seriously, It'd be a dream to help make this mod a reality!

Looking forward to it. Also does this mean we could create a classic fantasy roguelike in XCOM 2?

Mente Materia wrapping up.

Can't say I'm surprised by this news. Mente Materia is approaching the chapter and word length of Stardust and several major pieces are starting to fall into place. I'm still anticipating some big reveals before it ends, but I've got a feeling this won't be the end of the series. The way things are going, it seems like the Ethereals won't be outright defeated, but rather slowed down. Not to mention Solaria's inevitable return, and now Tirek's big debut. There's too much great stuff here to cram into one bookend.

My guess? Equestria will be overrun and Twilight will have to take up the role of wartime ruler as she gets as many beings to Earth before Equestria falls to whatever force takes hold. Thus allowing us to have our XCOM 2 moments for taking back Equestria.

And, of course, Discord's worst fears will come to pass. And honestly, I'd say he's had it coming for a while. Sure, he and the other omnipotent beings of the universe see things in a different moral perspective, but his own actions helped contribute to the catastrophes besetting both Earth and Equestria. He might have helped out from the shadows, but his lack of straight-talk with Twilight and other key Equestrian figures has probably hindered their survival odds.

And his punishment will probably be worse than being petrified or destroyed by the Ethereal collective. Remember his outrage (and possible fear) of those jammer grenades EXALT tried to hit him with? What would happen if it did manage to sever his connection to the magic field? What if it made Discord, the ageless chaos god, a mere mortal?

Oh, the plot threads are writing themselves in my head! Hurry up with those chapters before I start writing them for you, dammit!

Snek recruiting mission mod must happen. I'll make it happen.

I'm expecting a full Stardust Mod for X-Com 2. Depending on what can be implemented on the management side of things, there could be a 'Project Stardust' research tree. As days pass, you hear research reports from the mysterious project (which is initially hidden to the player), and the investment eventually pays off in the form of weapon upgrades, new tools, and a cute purple unicorn singing the Element song while you wait for the next invasion.

It all really depends on how well story elements can be modded into a new campaign. Weapon mods and new maps sound easy enough though.

Mente Materia: Long War mod.
