    On losing a parent

    All,

I was planning on writing a 'state of the writer' post this weekend to update y'all on what I've been up to. But, well, I suppose the state of me right now is everything all at once.

My mom passed away suddenly yesterday. She was 77.

Daring Do and the Red Shoe Diary

For years, since nearly the start of the series' rise to international fame, the rumors have persisted: Was there an adult-oriented Daring Do story? Has our intrepid explorer gone down paths far more sordid and saucy than her audience could have imagined?

New Red Shoes Chapter is Live!

After far too long of a hiatus, Red Shoes is officially back with a new chapter!

This time, we'll be hearing from the co-owner of Sugarcube Corner, who has a saucy but sympathetic tale to tell.

I hope you enjoy, and let me know in the comments. Cheers, all!

    Red Shoe Diaries: The Return

    *blows the dust off*

Yikes. I let this sit for way, WAY too long. As I'm typing this I'm realizing it's been 4 years, since this story last updated. That's horrendous, and also entirely my fault. True, lots of life has happened to me, and then there's the world going mad besides. But still, I should NOT have let this story lapse like this. For that, readers, you have my apologies.

RSD: Anyone up for a Peep Show? · 11:42pm May 11th, 2015

If you came here expecting a picture of peep candies, I'm sorry to disappoint. Besides, that joke's way overdone now. :raritywink:

But, what I DO have for you is not one but two sneak peeks at upcoming RSD chapters. (being trapped in the house by rain all weekend turned out to be very productive :moustache:) Do note though that both chapters are undergoing some edits and grammar checks, so this isn't final text.

First up is the fifth appearance by a member of the Mane 6, and in this episode, our favorite farm pony takes her turn in the spotlight:

"Cheers, and thanks." he said as he raised his glass. I returned the gesture and after tapping our glasses together, we each took a drink. I'm no stranger to strong drink, but that stuff had a kick.

"Whoo! Wow, that's got some bite," I smiled and took a whiff of the drink's strong but warming aroma.

"Cloud Nine distilling's ten year aged." Soarin grinned over the edge of his glass before taking another sip. "Gets the extra bite from the strato-barrels they use for the last eighteen months of aging. It's a limited run, so they don't distribute much of it outside of Cloudsdale."

I took another sip, savoring the heat that spread down my throat and into my gut. "Well, I'd say the final product came out pretty dang good. Definitely more bite than the stuff us land-lovers can get though."

"If it's too strong for you, I can get you something else." Soarin began to move, but I stopped him with a hoof.

"No need." I gave him a bedroom stare before knocking back the rest of the drink in one gulp. "I like things with a little bite to them."

And finally, we have a look into the first true betrayal/infidelity angle that we've seen in RSD. And the mare at the center of it might be the last one you'd expect: (who is it? It's a secret!) ;)

The bedside clock read a bleary eight forty-five as I slid out from beneath the sheets. My legs still felt like so much pudding, and I could already feel the beginnings of a kink in the lower back. Standing alone felt like a monumental achievement, especially with my brain still half asleep, but I somehow stumbled into the bathroom without stubbing a hoof on anything.

I reached a hoof around the door frame and blindly fumbled for the light switch, though I sorely regretted the idea the second the bright artificial lights waged war upon my still sleepy eyes. I retreated a step and turned away, focusing out into the adjacent bedroom to wait out the bright spots in my vision. My eyes were drawn immediately to the bed, and the sleeping pony that still laid in its warm embrace. If I listened carefully, I could hear a light snore from the other side of the massive king sized bed. He always snored after strenuous activities, and the dull ache in my hind legs was a quiet reminder that last night had been filled with very strenuous activities, if you know what I mean.

Normally, this would have made me smile. Somewhere inside of myself, I'm sure I did smile then. But there was just one problem.

This wasn't my bedroom in Canterlot.

And the stallion that I had been sleeping next to was not my husband.

Liked that? I hope so, and there's more where those came from too! I hope to have edits done in the next day or so, after which I'll release the chapters in a bit of a stagger to maximize exposure.

Until then!
