    Nightmare Moon AU

I keep musing about ways Cadence being canon before S2 could have fun influences on fics and the story but I just had an idea for an AU where upon returning Nightmare Moon steals the Elements of Harmony before anyone even gets close to them. Twilight and company still become friends, but then they barely escape the castle being collapsed on them and have to be saved by Zecora; as they recover,

DBZ Aftershock Characters: Kin, Pepper & Villains

The primary antagonist! I've temporarily named her Kin for another OC I adored.

DBZ Aftershock Characters: Azure & Isheen

Azure, (filler name) the Samurai psychic. Azure in a tall, blond-ish haired man/woman (I originally planned woman but am thinking maybe guy now) is based of General Blue from the Mystic Adventure movie, both in appearance and uniform. (Blue was nominally a good guy in that film so food for thought.) They may be a reincarnation, maybe not, chances are folks wouldn't mention it or notice unless

DBZ Aftershock Characters: Yancy & Ran

    Set up For Cast:

The story follows a new generation of 'heroes'. Though most of them are more aptly called protagonists and in come cases are outright antagonists. Some of this cast fall under the guidance of Bulma, Korin and Roshi while others have their own support networks & agendas.

Original Fiction Idea · 9:31am May 8th, 2015

Anyone who has been following my blog recently may have noticed I posted a rather detailed fic concept, for anyone who missed it there should be a link in the side bar to the various post.

After ruminating on the idea though I've determined it might actually work as an original fiction piece and have laid out some changes to the background and supporting cast, as well as the history of the setting and would love to get some outside feed back on the current set up.

Note:I will still be using the name of the DB characters the cast were based off as it is easier to communicate the idea through a comparison but they are meant to be able to stand on their own and nay suggestions for names or designs is welcome. (The main casts back-stories are also mostly stay the same, at least in broad strokes as is the world building, magic, Chi, tech, alien trade ships and psychics.)

Aftershock: As An Original Story.

Earth (or a fictional planet) was once on the outskirts to a vast interstellar universe and things were going fine, technology and culture were advancing, trade with alien planets was opening up and the world was nominally united behind one Government, at least on an universal representative level.

However, one of the greatest power blocks near the centre of galactic culture began to collapse on itself with the loss of it's leader, first leading to civil war and quickly spreading throughout the cosmos in a manner similar to the First World War with a daisy chain domino effect of back door alliances and grievances being set off, in this case because there’s a sudden power vacuum.

The Time of Chaos!
The intergalactic war which may well be continuing in the background of the story had a trickle down effect, with Earth being used as a long distance base, its people in proxy battles, a place for pirates/deserters/ETC to hide and as a simple battleground (many ‘outer’ planets were used like this.)

This went on for maybe two to five or so years and the damage was so immense that it took humanity from billions to millions and damaged the government and tech infrastructure horribly to the point of nearly obliterating every Government and military. This has led to an anarchic, chaotic period now that the battles are over and people are trying to rebuild and come to terms with terrible losses.

The Generation of Heroes!
In the planet's time of greatest need numerous heroes started coming out of the woodwork across the planet. Some were simple smugglers, or eccentrics who led people to safety or found them the resources to survive. Others were brilliant scientists, bringing down battle ships through subterfuge or new weaponry. Some were legendary generals who stood firm against the odds and finally there was the new, or old, element that was magic, psychics (Psychic may have been a known thing) and Ki wielders.

These individuals, once content to stay within temples and hidden homes stepped forward when their home was in peril, whether out of nobility and honor, lust for battle, selfishness or fear and they all fought. Despite the name very few of these individuals/groups actually worked together, but people naturally want to give life a narrative so they are collectively regarded as the generation of heroes. Tragically most of these heroes fell in battle or sacrificed themselves, but thanks to them millions were saved and enlightened that the world was a bigger and more mysterious place than they knew.

But some of these heroes still live in the current day, some are broken, physically, or mentally, to aged or damaged to be anything but mouthpieces, others remain strong having come to be regarded as leaders and heroes in the new world. But not all of them count as heroes any more...

The Generation of Heroes, Modern Day (and reinterpreted DB cast)
The (I need a name for this guy) Psychic Shogun, was an incredibly well respected general who led a brave force against numerous invaders and into the most terrible of battlefields. They were also mildly psychic, but the constant death, explosively intense high impact energy battles and desperation brought his latent talent to the surface in the form of ‘Emperors Eyes’ (May need a new name, perhaps God Eyes?) This ability allowed him to subtly influence people to his views, bringing out the exact emotions he needed or desired and encouraging obedience. Weak wills are easily crushed, strong ones, guided, only some can truly resist.
Now that the 'war' is over he plans to unite the world & has developed a bit of a god complex and while not a front lines fighter attacking him and not being directed towards an ally is difficult. To defeat him is not a simple matter of power, it’s a battle of minds. (The fact aliens were connected to and partially responsible for all the destruction, though they were as much just setting off a powder keg as anything else, gives credence to the Shoguns aggressive anti-alien views even if they come in peace.)
Add on: In line with Emeral's suggestion about Psychic helping power up others maybe the Emperor gets by like that, talking others into giving him their power to make him stronger. The imagery of a might emperor, sitting upon a golden thrown and surrounded by people chanting their name while drawing strength from it is kind of compelling.

'Wheelo' was a brilliant scientist, capable of breaking down earth and alien technology in order to make mechs, weapons and augmentations which allowed people to fight back. Now he may be deceased or is simply insane after his body was damaged and sealed away. Now he creates augmented humans, mech suits and other weapons under the pretence of offering them to people and expanding his power base. But in truth his designs are now unstable, pushed too far too soon or without sufficient training or research and he (or his followers should eh be dead) may be trying to eliminate free will.

‘Bulma’ was also a part of this generation and is well known for it. She was a skilled hacker and technician allowing her to hack into alien weaponry and create shielding technology that saved thousand of lives. Later on she teamed up with ‘Roshi’ and ‘Yamcha’ with them acting as her ‘on the ground’ people who’d break into ships and connect whatever she needed so she could take control. Eventually ‘Yamcha’ fell in battle and ‘Roshi’ lost a limb and struggles with his mechanical replacement but still serves as Bulma’s guard/companion. Bulma is one fo the leaders in the reconstruction but tries to separate herself from those making direct power grabs and hopes to turn her ‘company’ into something that will eventually be a sort of charity which works on social projects and research. She joined her bodyguard/retained on a surveying mission under the advisement of ‘some sun being good for you.’

‘Roshi’ was a Ki expert but not an ancient master, they may have been related to one through some means though; regardless they are closer to the ‘Giles’ of the group. ‘Roshi’ was ‘Yamcha’s’ teacher and fought alongside him and ‘Bulma’ against the oncoming chaos before eventually suffering a debilitating wound and losing his student who had long since surpassed him. He struggled with the robotic limb due to naturally being inclined towards Ki and the limited amount of tech at the time. He takes on Yancy because he sees a fire in her and wishes to stoke it rather than damage it as he did his last attempted pupil (Kin) as he did temporarily lose faith in his and Ki’s abilities. ‘Roshi’ often said Yancy’s predecessors training was incomplete which is why he fell in battle, but is lying as 'Yamcha' had completed his training and surpassed his master but still died. The Master didn’t want to admit this to anyone, especially Yancy but it comes out later before a deadly encounter.

Puar is a shape-shifting familiar of a now deceased mage who favors the form of a slightly alien cat and is rather fluid. ‘Puar’ was close to what they believe was Yancy’s previous incarnation and had great loyalty towards them before he died fighting and deems saving Yacy its duty and projects onto them a great deal which Yancy both feels uncomfortable with but also tries to live up to.

New Generation:
Each of the cast live in the shadow or legacy of the heroes’ who are kept vague on purpose, both by the cast and externally to paint an overarching picture of heroism without acknowledging the complications of real people. As I said earlier, much of the 'main cast' would remain the same just with slightly tweaked backgrounds for the new setting.

Therefore, Yancy was still found by 'Puar' and the lived together for a time with he latter believing them to be the reincarnation of their dead friend and Yancy trying to live up to that to make their partner happy. Though they might not meet in the desert but could still move to one of the wastelands as part of an escort/bodyguard thing due to it's dangers.

Ran's clan were saved by a heroic elder who aided by letting them seek refuge in a mountain which blocked energy reading (others were there too) and there they eventually learnt of or perfected their study of Ki and became a mercenary clan. Said individual may have had a third eye and the 'clan' would not just be beast folk but numerous species brought together by their shared fear, suffering and teachings.

Kin was still trained by ‘Roshi’ after being orphaned but coming from a similarly martial background but he felt she had little talent and that ‘their time’ had passed. She eventually left in frustration and still wishes to prove him wrong and seeks greater power and approval from the public, wishing to surpass the Generation of Heroes in fame and deed. Kin may have created an attack called genocide meant to wipe out ‘human’ matter but leaves stones and plants, she’s annoyed to find out space pirates have this technique and plans to kill them until it’s ‘her’ technique. Yancy sarcastically says ‘That’s not crazy at all!’

Pepper (need a new name) Is still a demon but they are functionally different to the DB ones. There is no Dead Zone but the ‘place’ demons come from is like a massive series of interconnected pocket realms ruled over by different demons and manifesting in different places.
Demons have a ‘base’ body but their appearance/mentality, age and sex is more fluid relating to how they seem themselves, their experiences and how they are treated, though they still age if slowly. As Kin puts it, ‘if I keep treating you like a child you’ll stay one’.

Azure and Isheen remain largely unchanged, the former a psychic samurai who has turned away form their master due to feeling he has lost the way and serves Isheen, an alien whose people he helped slaughter as she travels the world learning magic, searching for more of her people as they both try to get by and deal with one another. (Isheen's people were dying out due to the wars and they loaded up multiple seed ships and sent them all over the universe to escape.)

I am thinking of adding in an android and possibly making the 'Bulma' equivalent design or have designed something like the iron man suit, though those are more nominal and don't need to be there 'at the start'.

Notes:
There would be changes due to no long being set in DB, there are no capsules, though there are flying cars, scanners, and shifting tech along with mechs, lasers, scanners and so on, possibly even technological means of communicating telepathically.

A Lord Slug equivalent would probably be a group promising their ‘terraforming equipment’ would help replenish the damaged earth which has a lot of wastelands now. In truth they lost their planet and want a new one, planet pirates are still a thing as well.

‘Beast People’ would still be a thing, though i’d need a new name and RWBY already had the clever idea of making Faunus so suggestions are welcome.

Big animals, like dinosaurs, might still exist if ‘different’ and in some cases more ‘mystical’ like dragons or science/alien projects.

No Guardian of Earth, sadly, though there would be constant battles and debates over ‘’who’ should guide the planet and I think I’d leave the implication it’s better to ‘lead’ by example rather than from the throne.

Also, the Roshi equivalent is closer to a Giles style character over an 'ancient master' though they may have been connected to one or even related to one.

Ki, magic, Psychics and sci-fi tech are all present in one setting and competitive with one another as well as distinct, I love this idea just for that possibility.

So, any thoughts, suggestions, critiques or outside opinions would be greatly appreciated, if anyone is interested of course.
