A Sequel of the Story! · 9:45am May 3rd, 2015

Hey, guys! As you all know, Finally Turnabout Storm Novel has been completed, WHOOP-TEE-DOO!!! Anyway, My Beloved and Important Editor has made a Sequel! Here is the link~: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/260699/the-lawyer-and-the-unicorn

It has several down votes now, due to the theme and the story itself is portraying about Phoenix and Twilight's relationship... But please, give it a read first before judging! Alrighty!!

I know that I personally enjoyed the original for the court drama story line and thought that was really well done, but I was never a fan of the ship, and I've always held a dislike for the herd based gender roles the story used. I couldn't actually finish the wind down chapters after the main story line in the first one. I just like to think that if Equestria is a fantasy society where everybody lives in harmony and there's very little cruelty etc. etc. then it can be a society where I don't have to worry about including wide spread intolerance, imposed gender roles, and the like. It's not strong enough that I ran off to downvote the sequel, because I imagine it's well written enough to not deserve those downvotes, but I imagine there's also quite a few people who share that opinion with me, which is probably where those votes are coming from.

3040016 harmony doesn't mean everything is perfect. In fact a dictatorship could be harmonious. We have seen in the show that not everyone gets along, people fight, friendships can be ruined and not everything always works out. I love the idea of the herd dynamic. Xenophilia is one of coolest world building stories in the entire fan fiction universe. It's fine f you don't like the stories with herds, but ya, people down thumbing it are silly.

I suppose you're right on the harmony thing; there were better words to describe it. I have no qualms with these stories using the herd dynamic, because it's different ideas like that which create such a diverse collection of stories for us all to enjoy. I personally didn't like Xenophilia either, and that carried over into these stories, but that's just my opinion. I'm similarly opposed to many of the darkfics on this site simply because they're dark without a purpose, and need to twist characters and elements of the world into things they're most assuredly not to function (although my dislike for those is quite a few degrees higher then my dislike for this). I fully agree that people thumbing it down simply because they don't like the dynamic is silly, although having not read the sequel, there could be other reasons for the downvotes; I can't pretend to know exactly why.

I wasn't expecting this blog post! The intro to the side-story is here, and I would prefer folks read that before jumping in: http://www.fimfiction.net/blog/475549/the-great-ship-sets-sail

Some people weren't, and I'm okay with that. My hope was that there was enough additional interest from all the other story expansions--the alternate route to the verdict, the magic duel, Trixie's backstory, etc--to hold peoples' interest otherwise. The extended ending was sticking point for some as well, but that was more to help set up the side story and sequel and I think it worked well for it.

It's not strong enough that I ran off to downvote the sequel, because I imagine it's well written enough to not deserve those downvotes, but I imagine there's also quite a few people who share that opinion with me, which is probably where those votes are coming from.

Trust me, if you asked, most of the downvoters would say they did so for the theme and ship, while a few others would say it's because it's disrespectful to the original. That was two strikes against it right off the bat. My other fic, which is also M-rated and HiE, got 2 downvotes in the very first minute it was posted--definitely not enough time to be read! I came into this fully expecting it would garner a large number of downvotes and sadly was not disappointed.

For some people, human/pony is a huge no-no, doubly so for shipping crossover characters like this one. They have an immediate, highly visceral and negative reaction to it and automatically hit the downthumb. It's the price you pay sometimes for writing the story you want, but it's hardly that unusual. You've got people on site shipping Spider-Man and Twilight, Lero and Rainbow Dash, Gilda and a human geologist, even Godot and Luna. And at least three of those ships were surprisingly well done even though I would have thought there was no way they could work to be begin with. There's no reason this can't be any different.

Thankfully, once you get past the initial wave of hate things get better. When the epilogue was released, I got a massive swell of readers--40 upvotes in a day--and a steady trickle that continues since. Just before the epilogue release, the story stood at a like/dislike ratio of 40/32. Since the epilogue, it shot all the way to 101/38 as of this morning. That's a far better measure of its quality and likeability than what came before, IMO. Of course, being the writer, I'm biased...

i actually start to read the first because a saw there was a sequel.:derpytongue2:So dont worry i'll read it
