Thanks! Appreciate the well-wishes. Plenty more is ready to go but I need to wait for Turnabout Storm epilogue to be posted before continuing so can get my full audience in. The side story, or at least the blog entry for this, is linked to at the end of it. The plan is that once that goes live, people should come here (even if it's just to downvote) and that, coupled with new chapter releases and addition to groups will hopefully give this thing a big initial boost.
I know full well that this is likely to garner plenty of downvotes for the subject matter alone. I can't help that, unfortunately. But don't worry, it won't stop me either. This story will find its audience, and I think they'll be very appreciative of it.

Should mention now, if anyone comments on this chapter: the impromptu astronomy lesson was thrown in as a way to raise the word count. Most of the chapters prior to release (aside from the prologue) were sitting at over 5000 words. This chapter was at a mere 4000. I decided a more thorough explanation of the differences between Equestria and Earth was needed.

You don't have to read the novelization to read this.
It wouldn't hurt, but I can certainly understand if you don't want to run through an entire 400,000 word story.
All you have to know is that it basically followed the videos except for adding an extended ending and subplots, including a Twilight/Phoenix romance. Long story short: Twilight fell for Phoenix because (among other reasons) she'd been reading romance novels and Phoenix was an amalgam of all her favorite characters and themes; Phoenix did so in return but wasn't sure if it was real or Twilight was magically influencing him.
They talk and decide to take things slow. Phoenix doesn't go home right away after the Rainbow Dash verdict, but stays for two more trials (to defend Sonata and Trixie), Twilight accidentally summons his friends when she tries to contact them for him, various shenanigans occur, and at the very end Twilight and Phoenix kiss. There, you're caught up.

In the novelization, there's an alternate ending in that Trixie goes a little nuts after Phoenix finally proves Sonata did it. She loses it and all her magic just explodes out of her, which includes ice and weather magic--things she's had to suppress her whole life (if you remember, she conjured a small storm cloud when she tried to deal with the Ursa Minor and when she had the Alicorn Amulet, storm clouds were all around her).
She duels Twilight right in the courtroom, and you learn her backstory in the process and why she hates Twilight, indirectly explaining the black locks. She loses the duel to Twilight, is charged with assault and several hundred counts of reckless endangerment, and Phoenix decides to defend her after Twilight shares with him what she learned of Trixie's past.

Oh great, now they'll BOTH think they were too forward. Phoenix thinks he took advantage of her, I think, and Twilight will likely think she did the same. Firesight, this is the opposite of a negative critique. The fuse is lit, now I'm waiting for this powder barrel to explode.
The funny thing about this ship is that we have possibly two of the most neurotic protagonists imaginable trying to justify why they're falling in love. Kids listen to Uncle Al, sometimes you have to take a chance and let yourself fall. Just because love is a bunch of chemical reactions in your brain doesn't mean it has to make a lick of sense nor does it mean its not any less beautiful. Why the heck do you think they call beautiful love "good chemistry!" Oh boy, my nerd is showing, and I have no idea where that tangent was supposed to go.
Any story that gets me rambling is a plus in my book. Keep it up!

I consider it high compliment that non-cloppers like the story! Nothing's wrong you for it... you just appreciate (what I think) is a well-written story with good character development and storyline, one where the sex serves the story as much the other way around. I got a slew of downvotes on Friday's initial release, and a steady trickle since until today.
People downvoted it for the subject matter and/or ship alone without ever reading it. Human/pony is a big no-no for some folks, cross-universe character ships are for others. Mostly, I'm guessing they had a visceral and very negative reaction to seeing Twilight/Phoenix shipped and thumbed down the story on the basis of that alone. Nothing I can do about that unfortunately, except try to rack up the upvotes as well and ask folks to spread the word that this is, in fact, a good story. And releasing the Turnabout Storm epilogue was key to all that, because that's where my willing reader pool is coming from right now.
I won't let the downvotes get me down, especially with the love I'm seeing for the story today with a ton of new upvotes and faves.

5912983 Huge controversy before the story released. A vocal minority hated the shipping and thought Firesight was a war criminal for adding it. Some of the downvotes were no doubt concerted given the ways the statistics worked out. It doesn't even matter now. People are reading it and accepting it for the great story that it is, and that's all that matters!
