DMC 4 Discussion: Who is Nero exactly? · 1:40am Apr 10th, 2015
As a long time Devil May Cry fan, I've always been stumped by Nero's origins. Nothing concrete was ever stated about who he was and where he came from, and while we have plenty of ideas and implications of Dante and Vergil's youth, Nero remains an enigma.
Now, before anyone spouts that tired old, nonsensical theory that "ZOMG, GAIS! Vergil has to totally be leikz Nero's daddys! He needz more power, uses Yamato, and his Devil Trigger looks like NELO ANJELL-O!"
Let's get a few facts out of the way so that we can have a discussion backed by FACTS and PLAUSIBLE implications rather than mere speculation and Word-of-God theories from a Capcom employee who had little to no hand in crafting the story.
Sanctus stated that Nero possessed the blood of Sparda somehow. This was seen after Nero awakened his Devil Trigger by claiming possession of Yamato, which allowed him to access his demonic blood. The fact that Agnus knew nothing about this, or any of The Order for that matter, really adds some layer of mystery to this kid.
What the hell did Sparda do in his free time?
How did he pull something like this in his free time?
He died shortly before Dante and Vergil's 8th birthday, so what the hell gives!?
The problem with this is that there's a 15 year age difference between Nero and Dante, meaning if Vergil WAS Nero's father, he would have had to have engaged in coitus with a HUMAN woman at the age of 15 and BAM! 19 years later, we have Nero. There's alot wrong with that scenario. Vergil's a misanthropic asshole of a demon. Everything about his character portrayal screams "I am above humans. I am not weak, nor do I wish to seek pleasure through the flesh." Hell, there was even a moment in his awakening of Yamato that emphasized what he should seek to gain power.
So what about Nero awakening his Stand?...I mean Devil Trigger!
Notice how when he refers to Vergil's famous line, he's also subconsciously calling back to an incident that changed his arm. An incident that we have no insight to. And concerning him awakening his Persona...I mean Devil Trigger through Yamato, he simply tapped into its power. Not because he's Vergil's son, but because he possesses the blood of Sparda. And considering that both Rebellion and Yamato can awaken ones' inner devil, it all boils down to him obtaining one of Sparda's sons' swords. Simple as that.

Now look at the original concept for his Devil Trigger:
Notice the uncanny resemblance to one another rather than Nelo Angelo's design like everyone claims. Nero's Devil Trigger is his own and he simply awakened the blood of Sparda through one of Sparda's sons Swords. He probably would have awakened it all the same had he obtained Rebellion. Given this, what sort of relation do YOU think Nero shares with Sparda and his sons?
So.... Nero's Sparda's illegitimate son?

Thats a hard one, there is no direct connection between Dante or Vergil to Nero.
The most insight we have on Nero´s arm is that it happened when he a Kyrie were attacked in the woods(by demons i assume) and after that he started training with his Devil bringer in secret( nothing on how long hes been training).
The Devil may Cry 4: Deadly Fortune ( a Graphic Novel) hints towards him being Vergil´s son, but there is nothing official, HIs Devil Trigger i always assumed was because Vergil was still alive, Nevan lost to Dante (read died to) then became the guitar, maybe thats why he doesnt transform.
As for his age, i always assumed that by DMC4 he was 18, and DAnte might be in hes 30+, given we dont know how demons age might be more.
I personnaly go for him being Vergil´s son cause it seems better, teenage pregnancy might explain the shorter age gap and we dont know when V´s hatred for humans reached its apex.
2966800 I'd just go with that The Order managed to get hold of some of Sparda's blood and used it to create a half-human clone of him Superboy style.... It makes the most sense out of anything to me.
Maybe Nero's father was Dante and Vergils fathers brothers nephews cousins former roommate.

The problem was that Vergil's implied to be long dead. What with Dante obtaining his Amulet and forging Sparda's fully awakened Sword. Not to mention Vergil kinda exploded. Kinda hard to come back from that... at all

Honestly i think he hates humans more for what they mean to him (being weak), so is not a straightforward hate, he cold have banged a human female when he was younger, he was stll half-human, and he is not above using other to get things done.
As for him being dead, true, if we say Nero is his son because it was implied, we would have to assume his death as welll, Maybe DMC4 Special Edition will explain better.
Maybe he didint fully transforms because he is more Human then Demon, being the grandson of Sparda?
Edit: for plot sake lets say he is Fluttershy´s kid and make shippers happy.

I think Sparda banged a Woman in Fortuna many years before he met Eva, whom then birthed a half breed, which got with another human, whom then had Nero, but either abandoned him, or died before they could take care of him properly. IE, Nero is Sparda's Grandson, and kind of a cousin to Vergil and Dante.
Could be like Nightmare Omega said, you know, Sparda comes to earth for the first time, and like every demon who wants to have fun, he does what he wants, bang a woman and go back to hell after that, then he keeps going to earth not caring for this girl who could be now pregnant, and then meet Eva.
Or he could be Sparda's reincarnation ?
Nero fights using both Yamato and a big sword (Red queen here), he got both blue and red on his clothes like a combination of Vergil and Dante's colors

Except, his arm CHANGED after an incident that required him to defend Kyrie. He was a normal human during that time which means Nero wasn't always part demon. Got to remember that the church of Sparda experimented on humans to become demons themselves, so it's totally possible that he was human to. I highly suspect that Nero obtained the power from being possessed by either Vergil's spirit (and it's his ARM that has the blood of Sparda, just his arm which would explain why his Stand-i mean Devil Trigger is his own) or Sparda's power.
Or, Sparda had a brother or sister who also banged a human later (they would share blood after all)
After doing some digging, it seems that Vergil did indeed give his powers to Nero. He says that he had a weird dream after he almost died, one where he met a man with cold glare but with a hint of gentleness. The man ask Nero, "Can you hear it, the cry of you soul?". Nero however asks if the man can hear his own to which the man replied in Vergil fashion "Power...I want more Power."To which Nero says he wants more too.

unfortunetly my research did prove that Nero is most likely the son of vergil, I think it is even said in one of the art book of dmc 4
capcom hint alos said it could be with a prostitute.

Yup, i'm pretty sure they have no idea what they are doing, the prostitue idea make me want to kiss Dio ass and appointe him as my new god.
The other possibility range from being a experiment and putting vergil blood in him, but like I said most of my research gave me proof that he was most likely vergil son.
What I WANT to believe his that vergil somehow find love, or something similar, the chicks die, he drop the child cause he got a stand and heu ...devil trigger, go more power crazy fanatics and go on rampage for more power, the chicks coulds also die after she dropped the child, which could mean Vergil didn't knew. Anyway the important thing his, if it his done correctly Nero being Vergil son could be awesome, but if they do it Joseph style, making him impregnate a random chicks when he is drunk....than yeah I will drop real stinky shit on Capcom headquarter
I was always thinking in DMC4 Nero being The Order's creation for possess demonic powers. Which I don't know why only his left arm. Perhaps fail experiment. ( Since The Order's troops are a demonic angels. ) Perhaps Sanctus's "special" case experiment, which only he knew about Nero's demonic powers. Sanctus wasn't interested on Nero before he woke up his Demon trigger powers by possessing Sparda's Yamato. ( Nero could use some of his Demon arm's Demon trigger during his battle against Dante in the church. After the events in the underground laboratory, Nero acquires ability to use full power of Devil Trigger. Which is Demon arm's avatar. )
While possess The dark-forged Yamato blade, which belongs for Sparda & Vergil. Having their demonic powers in the sword. ( Perhaps a demonic demon blood seal, which can be broken by other demon, which have strong will. Just like Dante unlock his Rebellion sword in DMC3. )
Demonic Blood from the arm + Human host's own blood with strong will to overcome demonic corruption = Hybrid demon trigger user.
So, no. I don't think Nero is Son of Vergil. Just a unlucky kid, who got his arm cut off and replaced with "random" Demon's arm, which now Nero is badass lone wolf fighter.

My theory, is Nero is Sparda's bastard child, or perhaps, some alternate reality version of Dante, I mean, the two look pretty similar
