Changes to the Story · 5:15pm Apr 1st, 2015
I've been mulling over this for quite some time now and I've decided on a big change for the story:
The character of Orion will be replaced by Flash Sentry.
This is really only a superficial change and so the actual characterisation and personality will stay the same, but I feel it's one that's important and necessary. I wanted to cut down on OCs in this story and give more established characters the chance to shine and be developed. The character that used to be Orion didn't have to be an OC, but at the time of writing the first chapters of this story I had little options for male characters and so chose a random one from the background. I feel that since the show progressed and introduced new characters, the character of Flash Sentry is most suited to the role that Orion was to play and this retcon will allow me greater flexibility in the story. It'll further help show how the AU nature of the setting has affected canon characters.
The story has been edited accordingly, with the Flash Sentry character tag added and the mentions of a white-coated earth pony colt named Orion replaced with a yellow/orange(Gamboge?)-coated pegasus colt named Flash Sentry. I hope you settle into these changes and enjoy the new dimensions it adds to the story.

At this point, all i want is an update. I wonder if you won't reach episode 1 with this fic, but that would be in a sequel.
Well I clicked on the 2nd chapter.
"ctrl+F" and searched for Orion. They have indeed changed to flash - But one has been missed/left in.
3rd chapter is the same. but it only seems to be when the name is in italics.
I'm sure that'll get fixed soon.
Name change makes sense to me.
Thank god. Orion had like zero personality. It's good to have him replaced by a fleshed-out character like Flash Sentry.

Considering the widespread hatred/dislike for our favourite blue-maned pegasus, I would say that this is most certainly an April's Fool joke. Really, on this one day of the year you are welcome to be sceptical of just about everything.

Glad you agree. This change has really opened up a lot of potential for the character's growth and development; things I couldn't have done or didn't think about before when Orion was still around. Thanks to everyone for supporting this turn of events, I know that usually change is so hated by fans but it seems this one was at least successful from the responses I've seen.

Yeah, Flash just gets so much in-depth character development in the EqG movies, and has such natural romantic chemistry with Twilight.
...I suddenly feel incredibly stupid. You had me going for at least three hours, too afraid to actually click on the blog post and read the whole thing because I didn't know what to say. Eventually I came down here to tell you how horrible an idea this was, and realized it was April Fools day. You got me. You got me good. I've never fallen for a prank that hard in my life. In fact, I'm still not completely sure it's a prank. Please tell me it's a prank.
If it isn't--well, this is a horrible idea because it does absolutely nothing for the story other than alienate the chunk of your audience that doesn't like Flash. You deprive us all of a great OC in Orion, and replace him with a canon character that's mediocre at best. Beyond that, both characters have some amount of personality already (well, Flash sort of does) so a simple find and replace like you describe wouldn't work out. The character would still be Orion, except now he's living in Flash's body and nothing quite fits the way it used to anymore.
But none of that matters because this is a prank!

Doesn't change much. I've been picturing Orion as Flash in my head this entire time. In related news, FlashLight is a terrific OTP name, regardless of your feelings on the character.

I was indifferent at first, I expected Orion to turn out to be a rebel like Twilight's parents, but I think this will work out well. It has been my headcanon for almost a year that Flash is an orphan, so why not?
I don't actually see any possibility for romance in this story, her being so young, but it would be good to see them in some capacity.
