    16/03/2022 - M… Moondust V4!

So after three years of serving fried chicken I left my job last month. No worries, it’s all good.

Now that I have some free time on my hands, I have the chance to write more, art more, and get my life back into balance. Still no promises when it comes to speed and dates for chapters and things, but my creative juices are flowing a lot more smoothly now, which is good.

16/11/2021 - Starswirl's Second Law of Thaumium Growth

It's been a while. Chapter 19 of Moondust is trucking along. No set date, as usual, but it'll definitely be out before Christmas, and it'll be the largest chapter by far, so hopefully it'll be worth the wait!

    29/06/2021 - Narrative and Perspective

In my uneducated opinion, Terry Pratchett and George R.R. Martin are probably polar opposites.

    26/05/2021 - Lesson Learned

I'm not sure where the year went, but I'm still here, trying and failing to be productive. Chapter 15 is in the final clean-up phase, so expect to see that before the end of next week.

On the Cuddlhulian horror from the depths of Derpibooru · 1:37pm Apr 1st, 2015

Early-TLDR: Ok, so the gist of this is going to be that I'm thinking of rewriting The Tentacle Demon in the Pony Suit, but I want to hear your opinions on what it might become (read the rest to see what I want to aim for, but otherwise, feel free to give me some ideas of your own).
Oh, and, no, this isn't an April Fools thing. Bad timing on my part >_>

If there's one thing I love about writing about little colourful ponies, it's writing about little colourful ponies being put through loads of horrible shit. Whether this comes out in the form of those characters losing someone close to them, being forced to abandon the status quo due to some big change, or even being thrown into the melting pot in a huge disaster. I can't get enough of that kind of thing. Another strong theme in some of my ideas in the SFW usage of fetishes. I won't lie when I say I have a lot of them. Don't judge me. Obviously, Cuddlhu, being the be-tentacled horror that she is, lands in this zone pretty nicely - I write, basing her on the fetish at points, but never actually doing anything explicit or even fetishy in most cases.

Now, I went into the Cuddlhu story without any real plan. I simply hoped it would write itself as I went along. That didn't work in my favour, unfourtunately, and I ended up at a point where the events in the story just weren't going anywhere. I can handle Slice of Life to a degree, but I can't do with Slice of Life Slice of Life, if that makes sense. I don't feel confident that I can do Cuddlhu's cute factor enough justice.

Luckily for me, she isn't just a normal pony. I'm much more at home focusing on the darker side to Cuddlhu's character and her existence in of itself, than her day to day life of learning to be a pony and getting helped along at seemingly every turn. This is what I want to do with this eventual rewrite - make the story darker.

I understand this might not be to the liking of some of you, but... I feel there's much more story to be explored down that avenue than the current one. How dark will it be? Pretty dark towards the end, certainly, I won't deny that, but up until that point, we likely won't see anything worse than injuries and a few disturbing implications of how Cuddlhu came to be. She'll still be just as cute on the outside as before, so don't worry about that side of things. She's also not unique anymore, as I've come up with a species for her to be a member of. They will be detailed as the story goes on.

I'm sorry that I can't reveal much right now, but I want to hear the public reactions to this first.

A darker rewrite with a plan could be a good idea, as long as you're able to actually commit to it over the long-term.

2931032 I know. I'll try my best when I come to it.

Huh. I was assuming it was until that point.

2932914 Sorry about that. For some reason I have a habit of posting blog entries on April Fools Day like an idiot. Did the same thing back on DA.

Now, I went into the Cuddlhu story without any real plan. I simply hoped it would write itself as I went along.

well there's your first mistake. you should never do this. i've seen so many stories fall apart and die because the author didn't bother to plan ahead. it's good practice to have an outline of the entire story before you even start writing.

uuuuhh, i'm really not a fan of dark at all, but, exactly what type of "dark" are we talking about here? you're being a little vague.

2933507 Not Grimdark. I'll only ever do proper Grimdark (rape, torture and stuff like that) when a story really calls for it. Not that I've ever written anything that incorporates such elements.

The type of dark I'm talking about is mostly to do with disturbing themes, but also some nasty events that I can't talk about yet. On a scale of light to heavy dark themes, I'd put it somewhere close to the middle. I don't know you level of tolerance to this kind of thing, but I can't really any details past what I've already said.

well there's your first mistake. you should never do this.

Agreed. Honestly, all the stuff I do actual planning for is nowhere to be seen, since I always occupy myself with making sure it's all working out the way I want it to. It usually takes me a while. The reasons I didn't do this with Cuddlhu is both because I saw it as a less intensive story that needed... less effort putting in, I guess. I know that sounds bad, but that's because the other reason is that Cuddlhu herself provides a lot of possibilities thanks to her personality and her vague nature. I honestly didn't think I would need planning for a story like this one. Oh well, I guess this happened mainly because I just can't resist making things more complex and substantial.

REWRITIIIIIING!?!?!?

...

C-... Can I still edit?

Hope it sees a revival :moustache:

Good news, I do have something of a spiritual remake in the works! No details on it just yet, though. Gotta make a bit more progress on the first few chapters and general planning for it.
