I've been writing online for thirty years. One of these days I might actually get good at it.

    Falling behind

I'm getting to the point where just keeping up is beyond my dwindling capacities. I'm not sure what's going on, but I suspect I'm not going to like it when I find out.

Anyway, I apologize for having been such a lousy correspondent this year.

    Having gone wandering off somewhere

Of late, I seem to have been overtaken by events: my health has taken a turn for the worst, I wrecked my car, and the guy they hired to help me out at work has moved away. (Another guy has drawn the short straw.) I'm still alive, but it's not something I much feel like bragging about.

A night at the beer garden

I mean, I'm not allowed beer anymore, at least not until I get off some of these damnable medications, but our little table had massive fun discussing Jenga, photography, classic and modern weaponry, beer (of course) -- and ponies. Apparently they'd read my stuff. Who knew?

Regular visitors will remember that I'd asked the estimable LeekFish to knock out a sketch for my, um, OC. I posted it here, and it was well received; our own Twifight Sparkill came up with an idea, and heck, there's no reason you shouldn't see it here, especially since she's revised it to give me a more, um, scholarly look. (The LeekFish original is still in the sidebar at

    Back in the Real World

I think I would rather spend two weeks in the Everfree, trying to avoid everything that can kill me, and in the Everfree I assume everything can kill me, than one more minute in a hospital room.

That said, their definition of "on the mend" doesn't quite coincide with mine.

Not that I'm bragging or anything · 12:07am Jul 10th, 2012

The first-anniversary banner (featuring The Great and Powerful Trixie) notes that 220 million words have been posted here, presumably in the form of stories. This means that I have read ... wait for it ... one percent of the entire site!

At this rate, I'll have read it all in four years, assuming nopony posts any more stories. (Please ignore that last remark.)

I offer you my heartfelt congratulations, sir.
One percent of FimFiction's success is credited to you. :pinkiehappy:

The scary aspect of this, if you ask me, is that since I established some semblance of a Web presence, I have written well over four million words - and yet I can't get more than a thousand or so to act like a proper story. Evidently what talent I have is assembled more for speed than for style.

Although, if you did put together the motivation to write a story, I would be extremely grateful. Your writing style is unique from every other writer on this site. :pinkiehappy:

I haven't mentioned it here - why ask for trouble? - but I do have a back-burner story project going, though it's only about a thousand words so far and every time I add three, I seem to be changing two others. It might be better than some things that do appear here, but it's a long way from being top-drawer stuff. And the premise is dubious: Twilight Sparkle finds what she thinks is a portal, which dumps her in my driveway, and she must remember to get back into the proper location after half an hour so that her Retrieval Spell will work. (No, she will not get stuck among the humans. But she will be curious enough to come back a few times.)

I'm all for it.
Keep writing, but only post if you want to. Don't listen to little ol' me.

Well, I have a beginning, and I think I have an ending. It's getting from Point A to Point Whatever-It-Is that's going to be tricky.

And if it comes out Not Horrible, I may submit it after all.

Then I say good luck to you, sir!
