I am not happy.
I'm not happy with how short the latest chapter of "A Man out of Place" is.
I'm not happy with the way my work hours have been all over the place.
I'm not happy with myself, for getting sucker-punched by writer's block.
I
am not
a happy camper.
Before I go further, let me say that I'm sorry for taking so long to put a new chapter up. Things got... complicated, on the other side of this screen.
Chapter four was supposed to be twice as long, at least, with the meeting between Jack and You-Probably-Already-Know-Who being the bulk of the chapter, but Writer's Block and his buddy Procrastination were like "Nah, man. Comicbooks."
On the plus side, I've read almost all of the Batman Beyond and Justice League Beyond comics, and my new three favorite words are "kryptonite", "powered", and "batsuit".
Yeah.
I know.
And on top of all that, work has been... hectic... since my boss went on maternity leave a while ago, but it's really coming to a head now.
I'll try not to rant, but... Well.
The problem with an interim manager- or any new boss, I suppose- is that they see a system in place, they see where it falls short, where it could do better, and instead of taking the time to learn the reasoning behind it... instead of tweaking it gently until it's just right...
They throw it all out the window and make up whatever they want.
Then, when all the work isn't done, because there isn't enough time or employees, they talk down at you like an idiot for not working three times as hard in a fraction of the hours, even though having so few hours puts your insurance benefits at risk.
And this is me trying not to rant.
Things will go back to normal soon, though. Hopefully. The real boss is coming back from maternity leave in a few weeks, so I'll go back to having a good deal of time before work to write, instead of trying to be creative after, when I'm tired and frazzled.
Until then, here's a chapter that feels like a sandwich made out of two slices of bread and nothing else:
Light, lacking in substance, and not very satisfying considering how long you had to wait for it.
Sorry, guys.
