Hiatus...again, for a legit reason this time.

Ok, not that last time wasn't a legit reason (at least I assume having a broken arm counts). But yeah, for the second time ever, Shackles and Friendship is going hiatus.

As some of you know, I've been preparing myself for a grueling program called HackReactor, which in a nutshell is a boot campt for programmers. A 13 week course of constant hacking/coding, 8am-8pm, Mon-Sat, nonstop.

[Please Read] Should I show Rodney?

Trying to get a feel of where you stand on this. As some of you know I use pictures and sound to make the fic a bit more interesting. Pictures, I use sometimes when I feel my writing skills fail to describe what I imagine.

    *GASP* What a surprise!

Did I actually keep my word and uploaded a new chapter as I said I would?

Oh goodness! Something must have gone right in the world!

    ...

    Or very, VERY, wrong.

    Chapter 45 is being edited.

I'd say two maybe three days before I upload it. Thanks for being patient.

[Please Read] Should I show Rodney? · 11:01am Mar 4th, 2015

Trying to get a feel of where you stand on this. As some of you know I use pictures and sound to make the fic a bit more interesting. Pictures, I use sometimes when I feel my writing skills fail to describe what I imagine.

However, what I've avoided to do was show a picture of Rodney of Shackles and Friendship. If you collect all you know about him, there's very little in terms of how he looks. This is because I wanted you guys, the readers themselves to imagine how 'their' Rodney would be. Whether he'd be Caucasian, Asian, African American, Mexican, Spanish, Italian, etc.

So, should I or should I not put of a picture (not just any random picture, but an art I'll commission from an artist) of Rodney's appearance. I've set up a pool in the comments below, upvote or downvote your opinion there.

This is purely to understand and get in touch with my readers, so no promises that I'll do it if there are more upvotes (ok, maybe if EVERYONE upvoted, I may do it). Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Would you like me to commission an art for Rodney? Should I?

Please upvote or downvote this comment for your answer.

should I

No.
Who is it again?

Do you have any preferences? You're the author, after all.

Regardless, I feel that he's interesting and alive enough to be easy to visualize in the scenes that plays out without an established reference. But then again, dismissing your attempt to please your readers would make me feel like a tosser. So go ahead if you feel it could be interesting.

I think you can leave his physical figure in smoke and let us come up with details. Induction and deduction are the fun parts of reading after all.

Just thought I'd say that although I do enjoy this somewhat zany fix of yours, but most of the time I am on my very limit cell phone data. Can't watch the video and the pictures eat up the data. Could you possibly place links to the pictures instead of imbedding them?

I don't know, I want to know what he looks like, but with only a little detail on how he looks makes it easier for me to imagine myself in his shoes, or just how I would imagine him looking like.

2848768 Thanks for bringing this up, from this point on I'll be sure to do that.

Keep it up too the readers imagination. .

Why not model him after the Rodney from Iron Man? That's what was going through my head when reading it, but it's your choice.

Meh. I think Rodney looks like Devon Bostick from that one wimpy film.

I'd like him to remain anonymous, he's whoever we see him as, and that's what makes this story fun.

No. Imagination is about half a story. Without it, all there is is a large amount of text. It is the imagination that gives life to a story; places you in the middle of it, while also filling in the blanks, making it that more personal as it uses your own experiences to shape things as it makes most sense to you, the reader. How you see Rodney is, most likely, vastly different than how I see him, and how anyone else sees him. Giving him 'a face' at this point on the story might be more counterproductive than it might add. We all have shaped the world you have provided us with with our own thoughts and voices. Suddenly changing that now, even though it is with how you first envisioned how things are, will most likely disrupt the flow of everything.

Right now, when we see Rodney, we see the person our minds have shaped as we dived in this world of imagination. But, when you suddenly give us an image of how he should look like as you believe he does, and it doesn't match up with what we came up with, two things, in my opinion, are possible.

Either people choose to ignore your character design, and simply go with what they first came up with. Or, they might think that the way he looks just doesn't work, and will 'rebel' against it.

Of course there are more possibilities about what might/could happen, but they are too numerous to all cover, seeing each and every individual will have a different opinion.

But for me, I say to leave things as they are. I already have an image of Rodney that works for me. I see no need to change that. Of course, it is all up to you. This is your fic, and you need to shape it as you see fit.

2848768 Every phone browser I've ever used, and most desktop browsers have had options to disable the automatic loading of images.

In android browser, it's settings>bandwidth management>uncheck load images

2855232 ah, thanks for the tip.

I really don't care either way. If it doesn't match my image of the character I'll just ignore it, making it at the very worst a wasted effort on your part. Honestly, though, you shouldn't even have to put this up to vote. Just do it if you want to, it's your character, after all.
