RIP Leonard Nimoy · 6:19pm Feb 27th, 2015

So, yeah, no adorable Applejack today, guys. I just heard that Leonard Nimoy died. I won't wax poetic too much, but suffice to say I am a huge Trek fan, and this just killed my good mood.

Live Long and Prosper, Leonard. Thank you for all the good memories and amazing hours of entertainment. We appreciated you more than words can convey.

Today is a sad day.

Well...shit.

Not a big trek fan, but yeah I have to agree nonetheless.

Oh shit....

Oh Shit!

My nephew cannot be born the same day Spock died!

I'm right there with you Jake, this man was not only an iconic actor, but also a very down to earth, very compassionate individual who will be sorely and sadly missed.

"A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory." -Leonard Nimoy

"Change is the essential process of all existence."
-Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock. Star Trek TOS "Let this be your last Battlefield"

I feel it only right to quote Mr. Magorium and his advice regarding death.

When King Lear dies in Act V, do you know what Shakespeare has written? He's written "He dies." That's all, nothing more. No fanfare, no metaphor, no brilliant final words. The culmination of the most influential work of dramatic literature is "He dies." It takes Shakespeare, a genius, to come up with "He dies." And yet every time I read those two words, I find myself overwhelmed with dysphoria. And I know it's only natural to be sad, but not because of the words "He dies." but because of the life we saw prior to the words.
"I've lived all five of my acts, Mahoney, and I am not asking you to be happy that I must go. I'm only asking that you turn the page, continue reading... and let the next story begin. And if anyone asks what became of me, you relate my life in all its wonder, and end it with a simple and modest "He died."
...
Molly: Are you dying?
Mr. Magorium: Light bulbs die, my sweet. I will depart.
Your life is an occasion. Rise to it.

Goodnight, sweet prince.

I suppose I was better prepared for it since I follow his Twitter feed and knew that, as of last year, his COPD was progressing to late-stage pathology. Since I'm in the biomed field, I knew that indicated a very bad prognosis, especially at his age. So for me it was simply the occurrence of the inevitable rather than an unexpected shock.

It was still quite sad to hear it finally happened, though. He was quite unique among actors, and I recall some roles most barely recall, such as his part in the 1970's very grim version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (humanity loses), as well as his hosting "In Search Of...", a precursor to shows like "Unsolved Mysteries" and... ugh, I hate to lump it in the same class as shows which were often actually compelling... "Ancient Aliens" (vomits in his mouth a little).

He had quite a life, and was beloved by many. As we all face the limits of our frail bodies eventually, to meet our end while loved is what we most can hope for at the last.
