An update on Modulation's Chapter 10, and status in general. · 10:33pm Feb 22nd, 2015
Hello friends, I have good news.
I have a new computer, which means I'll be able to write every night instead of two or three times a week. Chapter 10's rough draft is nearly done. I have about 3 or 4 paragraphs to shape up before I'm comfortable to seek heavy editing. Here's a snippet?
Who was Rustle?
Besides the lack of computer, the reason why 10 is taking so long is because I didn't originally plan on writing it. Then my editor asked me about a certain character. Then my readers asked me about the same character. And as I kept plotting the story, I realized that I was going to go over this part sooner or later in conversation, so I might as well write it. And so I started from scratch, in the middle of all these arcs, and you guys had to suffer for that. Sorry, but I think you'll appreciate what this chapter brings to the story.
After that, the next chapter (11) has an outline, and the first scene is almost done. It needs some retooling as I've changed my mind about certain plot points, but it's been in my head for almost two years now so it shouldn't take long.
The chapter after that is about halfway done. I hit a dead end with Chapter 10, so I started working on chapter 12 because I had some notes on it but no real outline. I just did it on a whim and it damn near wrote itself. I'm very happy to get this one out the door. We could use a little bit more turmoil in Modulation.
We'll get even more turmoil after that one as well. Chapter 13 is the continuation of a previous chapter that was running a little long. By this point in the books, I hope some of the questions I haven't addressed are answered. This one is about a third of the way written, and that written third has already been edited a bunch, so it's pretty solid.
Chapter 14 will be the next chapter where I'm writing in the dark, but hopefully by then I'll have worked out what I want to do again.
I apologize for any spelling mistakes, I've been up all day writing and I'm getting a tad lazy. I can't wait to show you the next part of Modulation.
Here's a little bonus for your guys. When I write, especially when I use certain characters, I like to link a theme song to them. I can't explain the nature of the character who this song is tied to, but I'll let it do the talking itself. Just know that she is primal, gluttonous, and trouble in general.
