    I'm (still) not quite dead...

I'm sorry, I am so very sorry for the lack of updates on, well, anything. A few of you have probably noticed that I've still been putting in the occasional appearance or comment, but as for chapter updates...yeah I've barely written anything for months for various reasons - work sucks, arranging a couple vacations, a falling out in my D&D group of 14 years, and just a sort of malaise that

    When you're writing a chapter...

And listening to music to keep yourself in the mood, and then you hear a song that has you suddenly realize that you've been writing the entire chapter wrong and should have instead been basing it around the song - not necessarily using the song directly (especially since that would be against site rules concerning wholesale copying of lyrics), but certainly drawing on it for inspiration.

The Good News and the Bad News

The good news is that I got a root canal on Monday. No more pain in teeth. Yay!

The bad news is that I was 3/4ths of the way through the next chapter of Midnight Castle (~5000 words) and realized that I was writing it totally wrong. I need to go back to practically the start and change up a lot, though I'm salvaging lines and paragraphs wherever I can.

The Great Dragon Coronation: Ready to go!
The Glass Kingdom: In Progress!
Treasure Hunt: Ready to go!
Daleks Have No Concept of Friendship: Ready to Go!
The Life and Times of Nightmare Moon: In Progress!

Well, I finished a chapter of Dalek, which was probably my largest hurdle. Fans of that should be happy. The chapter shall be entitled "Daleks Have No Concept of Taste."

Who here has read Animorphs?

I read Animorphs, and still have all the books laying around somewhere or another.

Oh man, the Yeerks were totally a YA version of the Daleks, weren't they? Except the Daleks were smart enough to just build themselves robot bodies. Mind blown.

I've read the whole series from start to finish, and also all of My Little Pony: Morphing is Magic. I also watch PopArena's Opinionated Animorphs Book Review series on YouTube.

And when I was 15 or so I wrote Animorphs fanfiction, which got me into a lifelong love of birds, and was arguably my gateway into the Furry fandom.

I owe a lot to that awesome series. ^^ Animorphs was so wonderfully claustrophobic like nothing I've ever read before or since.

"Do you hate trash cans? Is that it? DO YOU JUST HATE TRASH CANS?!"

2771988 - Nope. The Yeerks were nothing like the Daleks. Daleks are a race of genocidal psychopaths. The Yeerks are just parasites - literally - and that comes across in their behavior. They subjugate other races for their own needs because that's just what comes naturally to them, just as meat-eating comes naturally to humans.

2772050 Hmmmm, as I recall the Yeerks evolved to control mindless animals, some sort of monkey creature on their home world. Then when they met intelligent races they treated them exactly the same as animals. So following their nature sure, like a Griffon that eats ponies is following its nature because it is a carnivore.

2772055 - kinda yeah. The whole nature vs choice thing is a theme that runs through the whole series, and Animorphs is great at making it a realistically difficult issue. For example, we meet Yeerks who disagree with taking away a host's free will, and who oppose the conquest of other planets - yet they still have to deal with the fact that without a host, they have a pitiful and meaningless existence. It's pretty heavy stuff for children's fiction, and it only gets heavier as the series goes on.

Also, there's this bit where Marco is a gorilla and he totally punches this Controller across the room, like BAM! And then Tobias is all like 'skreeeeeeeeeee' and the Controllers are like 'aaaargh' but then they get their Dracon beams and it's all like TSEEEEEWWW! TSEEEEEEW! but then Rachel gets mad and turns into an elephant and raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawr

2772071 I feel like your glossing over the most important issues of the series, which was that Visser 3 could shapechange into a monster that shoots fireballs. Heavy stuff indeed! Also I remember that their greatest weakness was Strawberry Quaker Oats, that was awesome.

2772105 - a monster with EIGHT HEADS. If we're going for precision, let's get numerical.

2772043
:rainbowlaugh: OH GOD I remember that line and I just burst out laughing now at remembering it. Well done.

2772055
The primates native to Yeerk Prime were called the Gedd. They were sentient, but only barely. More than chimpanzees, but far, far less than humans.

In Animorphs #8 Ax says that after the Andalites gave the Yeerks space tech the Yeerks conquered and enslaved a species called the Nahar. The Nahar are never mentioned again, though, and the Hork-Bajir chronicles makes it seem that the Hork-Bajir were the Yeerk's first victims.

Also, yeah, the Yeerks kind of were idiots, given that they had a distant relative race, the Isk, who were transplanted from Yeerk Prime centuries ago. They too went on wars of enslavement until they realized how terribly unprofitable that was, and so instead engineered themselves hosts to live called the Koort, who they made unable to live without them. Then they genetically modified themselves so that they themselves were unable to live without the Koort. Isk and Koort became a single species, the Iskoort. Who then basically became the Ferengi.

How to I remember this stuff?

2772034
I, too, wrote Animorphs fanfiction. AND WE SHALL NOT TALK ABOUT IT ANY MORE THAN THAT. It was all absolutely dreadful.

2771988
I actually didn't bring up Animorphs for the Yeerks, though...

2772187 - I certainly didn't self-insert myself into any story as a nothlit Andalite.

2772187 - I always considered the Iskoort book (The Attack) to be the "Gaiman Episode" of the series. I mean, Neil Gaiman didn't write it, but he might as well have done, considering the complete tonal shift of the book.

(also, sometimes their book naming was really lazy, considering that they're all of the form "The [noun]". Not only is The Attack not about any particular attack, the entire conflict is specifically resolved by doing something other than attacking!)

Wow....I had no idea that the Animorph's books were this well read amongst the Lunaverse fans. :pinkiehappy: This is pretty awesome, I gotta say.

Dude, Animorphs was my JAM back in the day. I don't think I've felt a more raw fury before or since that last book. The first 49 (so many books) were the ones I read religiously, though.

Since so many Lunaverse folks seem to remember and enjoy it, maybe we should kick around a crossover thread sometime. That could be fun. :D

2772187 Did you bring it up because changlings are a combination of the Yeerks and the Andalites? I thought it was because Daleks outside their armor resemble Yeerks outside their hosts.

I've heard of the books and seen a Plastic Addict review of one of the toys, but that's the extent of my knowledge of Animorphs.

What's the plan with all these story updates? Don't really remember.

I own every Animorphs book, they're in a Sun Chips box under my bed for when I have kids.

Ahhh, the chocolate trick like with Ax?

2772411
Once they're all done I'm posting all of them at once. Hence "RainbowDoubleDomination." But in the absence of story updates I want to make sure people know that I am, in fact, still alive and working on things.

2772453
:raritywink:

2772043 to be fair, Marco was morphed at the time.

2778374 Yeah, morphed into a gorilla which, if I remember right, has opposable thumbs.

2778463 the possession of opposable thumbs does not a driver make. :rainbowderp:
Pretty sure panic and lack of practice driving with those much changed hands was just a bit too much at that particular moment. :pinkiesad2:

2778913 Not to mention the fact that Marco was treating it like a video game...

2781042 And he didn't even have a driver's license (to my knowledge, nobody had cars or other transportation besides bikes, right?)...
