First Blog Post: Equestrian Natural Law · 7:57pm Jan 18th, 2015

Though my writing has been slowed to a literal stop as of recent I find I will have time to attempt to indulge myself in the writing of blog posts. I have a few more generous and kind followers now and so I figured I would give such works a try.
For my first I'm covering some lore; lore regarding the cosmological status of Equestria as we know it. For example, how and why does the world function as it does? Are the Laws of Physics any different, and how does it affect nature?

To answer these questions we will need a map, and as luck would have it there is an official spread of one.

So, let's start with the basics.
For starters, Equestria functions opposite to ours in terms of how the sun functions; whether Celestia and Luna quite literally move the sun or moon, or if they share the required force to spin the entire planet accordingly, they do so backwards to ours. I do have canonical proof; in Applejack's portion of Cutie Mark Chronicles she is watching the sun rise from out of a window in Manehatten. In front of the sun are mountains and land mass; but there is a sea to the east of Manehatten, where our sun usually rises from. Thus, the sun rises in the west and sets in the east.
Also, the way Equestria is positioned, we can deduce that it is located in the northern hemisphere of whatever planet it is a continent on. Let's call this planet- the furthest I've searched, I can't seem to find an official name for it- Terrasol (earth and sun). It isn't very creative, but it will do for now. So Terrasol possesses the continent of Equestria in it's northern hemisphere, but there are other confirmed continents as well, Zebrica as just one example. So, being the largest and likely most diverse in temperature as a result of said size, it is the size and shape of the European Union; cold at the north, hot at the south, given how it is positioned to the equator.

Past that, we look at physics over geology; seemingly, ponies possess very active roles in how nature is maintained. They wrap up winter, they get the autumn leaves to fall, they control day and night. The only safe assumption for this is to scrap the Laws of Physics entirely; they don't fit very well at all with Equestria and so there is no point attempting comparison. There is gravity, indeed, and all forms of energy and force are present, so we can at least account for the components' existences.
But, for any of this to function, we need to forget all natural workings that occur on our planet- volcanos, melting ice, whirlwinds- and look at Terrasol's instead. My theory of how Terrasol functions is this;
Magic is present on this planet, and not the physical type unicorns wield. An omnipresent force, so to speak, as active as gravity but still not visible, same as the others. It does not push or pull as the others do, but instead instigates natural movement. Volcanos recycle magma and thus cooled stone and ice will melt, but only if the required effort is applied to it. Ponies, being inhabitants of Terrasol, have access to this magic. They can make snow melt, but first they have to cut up the ice lakes and peel it off the fields. They can make leaves compose but first they need to shake them off the trees.

A supporting theory for this is how all three races have access to the magic in unique ways. Pegasi control the weather; they can instigate precipitation, make physical contact with clouds, spark and control thunder. Earth ponies are in control of the earth; they are unmatched in fertilisation of soil, growing crops and keeping the environment and ecosystem in check. Unicorns are perhaps the odd ones out, though maybe they keep the magic in balance? Maybe they have a role in keeping the unseen natural order in check by channelling it through their horns?

Wow, you read down all this way? Thank you, and have a cookie. But hey, I've been blabbing enough; do you have any good ideas and headcanon for the natural order and laws of sciences in Equestria? If you do, I would very much love to hear it! :pinkiehappy:
