    Quickdraw Blog. BANG!

Heya folks! This will be a quick blog, more rapid update outta necessity than witty commentary, so i'll cut straight to the chase. I've got good and bad news. The good, in my opinion, outweight the bad! But you be the judge:

It Cuts Like a Knife; It Might Leave You Bleeding

Story reviews are interesting because, sure, you can use them to know if a certain book will be the right one for you? But I feel they’re more useful when the review is in itself a tool to talk about storytelling in general. You review a book, but the book is a jumping-off point to discuss what it means to have good pacing; stuff like that.

A Full Year of Only Mondays

Good morning. This is, from my point of view, a comedy blog. From the point of view of my family and loved ones, it's a horror story.

I'm so fucking back, baby. Hi, all. Did you miss me? I know I did.

I Can't Believe I'm Writing This One · 1:26am Jan 17th, 2015

BUT I'M DOING IT

PEOPLE

PEOPLE

I'VE FINISHED IT

This is like seeing your child grow nine chapters and an epilogue

Dear God, this has been my longest project in a very long time. Very long time. It's all written, and now I just need to edit it a couple times before posting -- but don't worry, that won't take much.

Man. I seriously see this as my best story. I hope you guys like it. I'll upload it chapter by chapter. Maybe a new one every week? Or maybe every X days. I have no idea. We'll see.

This has been my main project for a very long time. It's the reason why my last two stories have been a "spur of the moment" story, written in one go. This one has taken over seven months to complete.

Ooooh boy. Ooooh boy. I love this story so much.

Ok... but what is it?

Careful not to love the story too much, because then it will be cursed to be completely and eternally overshadowed by some crappy crackfic you write in a couple hours with absolutely zero planning or care.

Yeah what is it? is it more crazy fun with Lyra, Bon Bon, Whooves, Derpy, and the rest of the crazy gang?

2727661

Oh, that already happened, and the story is not even published. I have a fic in the top ten of the website (as I write this) that has been #1 a bunch of times, and it was half-assed in one afternoon. Almost all my popular stories were done like that.

Woo! Can't wait until it's all the way out. I'm sure it will be wonderful. Then again, I liked Born On A Rock Farm, so I'm probably just weird.

Gee, I cannot wait.

2727697 That sounded as ecstatic as a rock rolling down a hill.

By the way, people, direct your focus to the word count. Look at that, tens of thousands of words from Aragon himself. Beautiful.

2727672 They were all DONE?!

Ah, I'm so sorry.

Rock.
You are a rock.
Grey.
You are grey.
Like a rock.
Which you are.

Rock.

82,000 words!? Am I counting that right? Holy shit!

woah, that's big

Looks very promising. Maybe one chapter every 3 days? Starting today perhaps? Come on... I need some light reading for gym today.

When you finish it before you submit it so you can make all the changes that you want and get it all just so.

And I'm all like 'nah fuck that' and publish my stories as I write them.

Despite not having read a single word of it, it feels liks I've had a huge say in the making of this story. These feelings just come up when "heistfic" is uttered multiple times a week over the course of seven months.

Once again, congratulations!

While I admit that being able to retcon at will was one of the reasons why I wrote the entire thing before posting, I gotta say that not having any real pressure -- being able to stop writing for a month if I get too busy, for example -- has been the biggest advantage when it came to this story.

Plus, I barely changed anything. Turns out I managed to write the entire thing without deviating from the intended ending -- although I gotta give the entire story a re-read before posting anything, if only to add some foreshadowing and make it more consistent.

2727668

Sadly, no. That one comes right after this is posted. I wantto be working on a long story all the time, publishing shorter fics in the meantime. The actual sequel to Long Story Short, Things Went Down has been planned for ages, and seeing how incredibly easy to write that one is, I'm completely sure it won't take me this long to finish it. Why, the other two instances of this story were written in little more than a month and a week, respectively.

So yeah, wait for those. It'll be a big one.

2727967

SEVEN MOTHERFUCKING MONTHS OF WRITING. HELL YEAH YOU'RE COUNTING THEM RIGHT.

Pff seven months nothing. I've been walloping my head against my fic for two and a half years now.

(... Which is another way of saying I can't write shit.)

But woo, another long form! I just read Born on a Rock Farm a few days ago. It was neat.

2729005

When you're starting and can't quite put it into words, I recommend trying to write something short -- around 4k -- with a somewhat original plot. That'll give you enough feedback and motivation to keep writing.

Also, don't let a single day pass without writing at least 1000 words. 500 if you're very busy. Even if you need to delete them. In chapter 6 (I think) of the story I talk about in this blog I got blocked in one scene. I would write around 2k words every day, and delete them all and restart 24 hours later after reading them and seeing they were shit. I think I ditched around 7k words or so in this story.

So, the thing is -- don't give up, brah. That's how one writes: one word at a time. And constantly whining to your friends (as you can see by 2728669 's comment).

2729035

Danke schön. Whining, you say? I can do that! I can do that good.
