Mr Enter: An important Announcement · 10:15pm Jan 15th, 2015
Hello there, people who are nice enough to read my blog (thanks, btw).
My original plan for my first blog of 2015 was to go ahead and post my Siren headcanon backstory into two parts and direct people here. (I'll set that aside for the time being.) Another option for me would probably be to talk about my thoughts on Parks and Recreation's season 7 premiere, which I do have a lot of thoughts on, and will most likely post at a later time... somewhere...
But now I feel I need to write about something a little more urgent. Something that I take personally as someone inspired by the works of those online, and who plans to go into the creative business.
Earlier this week, The Mysterious Mr. Enter, one of my favorite online reviewers outside of the Nostalgia Critic, got his Youtube account suspended. Apparently the higher-ups at-
Viacom Evil Incorporateeeeeeed!!!
- have decided they'd love nothing more than to take advantage of certain website's copyright laws by taking down four of his videos, which apparently gets you the boot on that site. Why? Can't take a little criticism, VEI? Actually, one of those videos that you took down during the initial takedown was PRAISING one of your products, or at least giving it some credibility when even YOU should know how bad things have gotten for your reputation. Face it, you can't handle even the slightest opinions about legit mistakes you have made. Mistakes you are responsible for that are driving people away, and are now talking about you for that. You have no one to blame for his criticisms about you except yourselves.
Also, does it not occur to them that by taking down the videos badmouthing them, they only make themselves look worse in the process?
But this spells danger out for us on the internet, at least those who do this sort of review thing for fun and the entertainment of others. If companies like VEI can do this sort of **** anytime they want, then a lot of reviewers are in trouble. If I could, I'd try and persuade them with a resonable argument that not only are they unfairly taking down videos that A. Aren't for profit and B. Should be protected under fair use for review use or something like that, but that these reviews are how we choose to INVEST in their products- we don't want to waste our money on crude. Yes, it sucks that some people opt to see these movies and shows for free (for you guys at VEI, maybe), but for some of us, it's our ONLY means of viewing Spongebob or Ponies or whatever, and we simply cannot afford to spend money on them directly. By depriving those who rely on the internet for this sort of thing, these companies lower your potential fanbase, and limit potential fans who would otherwise try and find a way to support. Well, you know, if they stopped making dumb moves that cause such negativity, but you get the idea.
Mr. Enter has his own critics, sure, but he didn't take them personally. And plenty of his fans are helping to spread the word about what's happened, trying to rally support for his channel to return, and to keep up with him on deviantart and dailymotion (which is where his videos will be posted for the time being) I am one of them. No, I don't have a lot to my name here yet- I promise, I have ideas, and fanfics I eventually want to get out here, but I don't know how long that'll take. But right now I'm not very well known out here in Internetland. However, this is something I'm passionate about- the right for an online critic to take down bad animation and support/praise good animation wherever it may be. The right to hear opinions. And the right for others to post what they want, regardless of what they have to say. So even if only one person reads this blog and spreads the word via online comment, or their own blog, or a video or something, by showing my concern and raising awareness even a little bit in the only way I can, I'm doing something.
I'll keep up with him by watching him videos on dailymotion. I'll check his deviantart for updates on his situation. If I come across the money, I'll donate to his Patreon. In any case, I've got his back, and will help him however possible. And you can, too. :)
Check out his videos for the time being here, his Deviantart page here, and if you can, support him on Patreon here. We wish you the best of luck, Mr. Enter.
