I've been writing and selling stories for longer than a lot of folks reading this have been alive. Check Baal Bunny for more!

One Thing Planned, One Thing Unplanned · 1:29am Jan 9th, 2015

The planned thing:

Has me way more flustered than the unplanned one, too, which seems a little odd.

But next weekend, Jan. 15th through the 19th, I'll be up in San Jose, CA at Further Confusion. I haven't heard yet from the folks at Sofawolf Press whether they'll actually have copies of my book Rat's Reputation available, but I know that's the plan. What could possibly go wrong? :pinkiehappy:

The unplanned thing, though, came to me last night and has to do with the More Most Dangerous Game writing contest. I looked at it when it was announced and decided I wasn't going to enter since the five stories they're using as their prompts, well, I've never actually been able to finish reading any of them. I've started each of them--multiple times in the case of Past Sins and Fallout: Equestria--but a variety of factors led me to abandon the stories before I'd managed to get to the end.

So I figured I wouldn't try to do anything with them since I don't really have a complete picture of what the stories are about. And then...then something started squirming through my brain, and I may hafta see if I can get it to work. So again, what could possibly go wrong? :twilightoops:

...Why do you jinx yourself so?! :twilightoops:

What about Cat Mother and Eagle Father's Terrible Road Trip Through Space and Time?

I'm going to be writing "Nightmare Knicks": A little filly is possessed by the 1970 NBA champions, the New York Knicks. The mane 6 recruit Lyra to find an elderly Jerry West who seeks revenge. The Judges are clearly going to hate me.

Oh, nifty! I hope to run across you at FC. Will you be at the Sofawolf booth, or attending as a regular ol' non-vendor?

I don't think there's a huge horseword contingent going, but if there's critical mass we may have to plan out a room party some evening and get together for chat and/or writing time!

Fallout: Equestria is the certifiable Best

Well, I would think that not knowing the stories, and only having the prompts to start from, would be the best way to go about things. Unless of course, convergent creativity, but even then you could avoid that by going for Fallout and just not writing a Fallout crossover. :B

Easy. Write a 1000 word short that encompasses *all* of the criteria.

At this point, I'm not sure I'll have time to work it all out before the deadline, but I'm enjoying the pre-writing enough, I'm likely to write it anyway. "Fallout" is the one that defeats me over and over again, though: five times now I've tried to read it, but everything about it just sets my teeth on edge... :twilightoops:

If they have actual copies of Rat, I'll be at the Sofawolf booth at some point signing and selling them. I'm scheduled to be on a panel Saturday evening at 6 called "Beyond the Furry Horizon" about selling stories to regular SF and fantasy markets, but other than that, I've got no idea what the heck to do with myself. I don't get out all that often... :scootangel:

Well, there's all the usual furry convention things to see and people to meet. On occasion I drop by a panel or two (I'll try to make a point of seeing yours!), but mostly I use it as a chance for a weekend of socializing and spectacle.

I'll probably spend some major chunks of the weekend down in board gaming — if you catch up with me there I can show you my hilarious and slightly-off-color card game about writing sex scenes in a bad romance novel. (There's a My Little Pony expansion, even!)

I'd be happy to set aside some time if you're interested in going to lunch and chatting about fanfic and/or life! Come to think of it, I don't know if there are going to be other pony fanfic folk there — there will certainly be a pony crowd because there's crossover, but it doesn't draw bronies the way that brony conventions do, so the niche-within-a-niche of FIMFic authors might not reach critical mass. I'll ask on my blog.

If I can convince myself:

Not to give in to my Fluttershy nature and somehow manage not to spend most of the weekend hiding under the bed in whatever room the Marriott gives me, then I'll see you there!
