Okay, this seriously cracks me up... · 3:32pm Jun 28th, 2012
It may be old news, but I just discovered this today: The Daring Do book series, fictional stories within a fictional show, has its very own TVtropes page!
I don't know if it's based on some fanfics about Daring Do (there's quite the number of "Daring Do and X" stories out there) or completely made up just for the fun of it, I suspect the latter. Either way it made me laugh a lot (and not in a mocking way), because it's very detailed and played completely straight.
Hmmm, Ive been hearing a lot about this Tropes thing. What is it? Ive looked at the website and i am still confused on whats so 'cool' about it.
I can't explain what the word "trope" means exactly (not being a native english speaker), but the website is mostly about collecting cliches (like Bond Villain Stupidity for example) and recurring themes or archetypes in tv, movies, books, even fanfics. On TVtropes each trope has it's own page, explaining it and listing examples of it's use in different shows. But every show, book etc. also has it's own page collecting all tropes observed on it. Some have even pages for each character or episode.
Caution: This website can be very addictive (I'm talking hours spent there!). It's like the early days of wikipedia, when you read about one thing and got drawn into the article about 3 other things and so on.
