You know the strangest thing about my FiM addiction? It isn't the girliness of the show or anything like that; I think this community has proven that that is no bar against the sheer quality of it.
It's that I like the show despite having hippophobia. I have an irrational fear of horses. No joke. Admittedly, a mild case, but I do tend to panic and lock up when there is a horse nearby. This can be a bit of a problem when my in-laws live on a farm. I remember being stuck in the middle of their half-mile-long driveway for a good fifteen minutes frozen in terror while one of their horses sniffed curiously at the windows of my car. It made for a pretty ridiculous sight.
The thought just struck me as odd. Anyway, Election in Ponyville is up now. You should read it. And be careful around horses.
I've always sort of... disliked horses. And the old horse-faced MLP toys creeped me out.
So I've always thought that one of the most appealing things about FiM is that they look so little like horses
They've got the general structure, yeah, but the strange colours, hair-like manes, small snouts, indistinct hooves, and overall different proportions have always added up to 'not a horse' in my head.
